Resizing USPS Flat Rate Boxes for Cubic Shipping

I know if you resize flat rate boxes they will ship at zone and weight rate according to

But does that include shipping them at cubic rate? For example cutting down the medium flat rate box #2 to get it to ship at the .3 cubic rate. They have other similar size boxes but they max out at 3" thick and the medium flat rate #2 is 3.5" thick.

Unlikely that you'd get away with paying less than the full flat rate price..

From what I can gather from that USPS bulletin and a couple of AZ SC posts:

It appears standard Priority Mail supplies can be used for Cubic Pricing shipments (which I would have assumed was not the case)

AZ SC thread indicated Flat Rate could not be used, and that along with the belletin info that indicates that a reconstructed FR box will be charged by zone/weight, inclines me to think that Cubic Pricing would not apply then - it would be bumped to regular Priority zone/weight pricing (whether Retail or ComBase is unknown)

beserker is right - you can not use or cut down flat rate or regional boxes if shipping cubic. There are some priority boxes that are sized for use with cubic shipping like the free shoe boxes. Unless a box is absolutely neede - I've been using poly mailers and saving even more on shipping.

Cubic rate looks pretty good - especially for things that don't quite fit in a PFRE. May have to look into it. I note the site says no credit card required - how does one pay for labels there - PayPal? One off, or monthly invoice?

Pirateship I pay with my credit card for labels. But a credit card is not required to sign up, its free.

I sell a lot of clothing and for items that don't fit in the padded flat rate or if I get multiple sales from the same person I use the free tyvek envelopes from USPS, they are 12x15 and ship at .2 cubic rate.

You can purchase postage with any type of credit or debit card. We don't take PayPal at this time, but you can pay for postage using the PayPal Business Debit MasterCard. Since Pirate Ship’s software is 100% free, you don’t need to provide any payment information to sign up for your free account, but to purchase postage from USPS® you’ll need to add a payment method. 

From your Pirate Ship dashboard, click on Settings > Payment Method and add your credit or debit card, or bank account information. You will only be charged when you purchase postage, and you will only be charged the exact amount of the postage (unless you configure your account to have a Minimum Payment Amount, which can be helpful if you’re purchasing lots of postage and want less transactions on your statements).
