Replying vs. Leaving Feedback + Selling out users to the IRS

Hello Friends on eBay,   It used to be that I could "Leave Feedback" for a Buyer.  Now eBay throws a screen at you which says "Reply to Buyer."  I have emailed eBay asking what the difference here is.  Is "Replying to buyer" just an email?  Or, is it leaving reciprocal feedback to the buyer.  Of course, I've asked this question to eBay directly.  But its ignorant, homogenous, uneducated staff will not (probably cannot) answer the question.

Allow me to add that eBay has done a terrible job helping users and sellers with the new taxes we're all going to have to pay.  eBay's lack of direction, explanation and specificity leaves seller having to pay tax accounts and lawyers to disentangle the whole new tax mess.   eBay is selling out it's sellers to the IRS, while providing little to no help to its sellers and users.

Re: Replying vs. Leaving Feedback + Selling out users to the IRS

Actually, I have sold on other platforms and eBay seems to be going in the direction of Bonanza.com where the seller is pressed to pay just to have his or her product seen.  I'm making reference to the latest eBay campaign which aims to persuade sellers to pay eBay .99 to promote items regardless of how profitable the item is after charges and shipping.  It infers that your product may never see the light of day on eBay if you don't pay the 99 cents ransom.  RE: your other points, Alberta, please read my recent reply to luckythewinner.

Re: Replying vs. Leaving Feedback + Selling out users to the IRS

You are still confused.

As has been explained in hundreds of threads/posts on these boards.

The level at which a 1099-K was sent is the change.

There was no change in the amount being taxable. It was never $20,000.

Re: Replying vs. Leaving Feedback + Selling out users to the IRS

No, what it is ........  is the reality of the situation.

2023  (for 2022) will be my first year to get a 1099-K.

It will make no difference in my reporting requirements, and will be no different than this years years filing process for 2021.

I so see that if makes a difference in how some "hobby" sellers need to file, but if the don't owe tax $$ on the sales, then they don't owe tax $$ on the sales.

One more time.

--------------------------------------------

They lowered the taxable amount from $20,000 to $600.

100% flap doodle. A common misconception.

At what sales amount do you feel required reporting on your taxes before 1099ks were sent on any amount?

"They lowered the taxable amount from $20,000 to $600. That is a 97%! 97% !!!! "

That is just not true,Previously, under the tax law, you had to reach a $20,000 (twenty-thousand dollar) threshold before Paypal and other payment services were required to issue you a 1099-K.

That doesnt mean you shouldnt be reporting your sales income all along, its just means PP didnt issue you a 1099-K until you sold $20,000.You were still responsible to report your sales income, no matter what it was, as has been explained to you over and over.
