Refunding customer

Customer paid for car parts. The money they paid is on hold. I was able to purchase a shipping label, which reduced the balance of what I would receive, with said hold money.

However, buyer notes their vehicle is different and now the parts won't be compatible, I notice this and try to cancel the order. That way, I'm not shipping out something that I know will 1000% get returned. However since ebay deducted the shipping label and promotion fees, my "available balance" is in the negative. I have not received a refund for the label. Does ebay want me to pay out of pocket in order to refund the buyer? Because that's not going to happen as funds aren't available to do so. How does the buyer get their money? Would they need to open a ebay moneyback guarantee case?

Re: Refunding customer

@josfra-7364  go to the drop down menu next to the item and click on cancel order due to buyer's request, then u can click on refund buyer. ebay will credit your fees back to you.

u can void the label and get your money back by hovering over 'Orders' top of seller hub page and click on 'shipping labels'

it will take a few weeks or more to receive your refund

Yes, they do.

You will get everything back when your payment clears.

If you voided your shipping label, you will also be getting that back.

In the meantime ebay wants you  to use your "back up" source to refund the buyer.

Re: Refunding customer

It will not allow me to refund the buyer because there isn't enough in the bank account to cover the negative balance for the label and fees.

Re: Refunding customer

What can the buyer do to speed this up so ebay will cover his refund?

Re: Refunding customer

There is not enough to cover the refund because your funds are on a temporary hold.

You need to have a "back up" funding source to cover these kinds of things.

Re: Refunding customer

Well I was able to refund buyer but only what was "available" after fees and shipping label costs. They can take it up with ebay, which is what I suggested they do to begin with since the money was stuck on "hold". My listing says no returns, and the buyer failed to read the description and verify the parts worked for their vehicle. I gave them the maximum refund I was available to refund. Either way, I'm sure they will report to eBay. Nothing I can do about that. Buyer should be thankful that a refund was even issued to begin with. Since listing states seller does not accept returns.

Re: Refunding customer

Wait, what?

You're refunding the buyer less than the full amount, and you never even shipped it?

You'll be lucky to come out of this unscathed, you almost certainly will receive well deserved negative feedback, and the rest of the refund will happen unless the buyer magically doesn't push for it.  They will hands down win an Item Not Received case if they file one, because you don't have tracking showing delivered.  And that's all they have to do.

You need to take time and read the basics on selling on eBay thru their help pages. You need to familiarize yourself with how eBay’s policies are and how they work. Spoiler alert: they are vastly unfair to sellers and biased to favor the buyers.

At the very least skim thru the pages and ask questions here for clarification, even if you think you have dumb questions. It’s better to over-know versus not know at all.

If you don’t do this, you are in for a world of hurt according to this previous post you made.

Re: Refunding customer

Ebay can figure it out. Guess this isn't the place for me. Luckily I'm only trying to sell one item. Would have refunded buyer the full amount if it was available. Doesn't seem right that I should fork money out of my wallet to fix a buyers' mistake.

Re: Refunding customer

Yep i already received my one star. I tried canceling the order and it didn't work. Try to convey to the buyer to the cancel the order. they weren't able to cancel, or just refused to. I've had 3 buyers flake on me. I'll gladly watch my item collect dust before I pay out of pocket to essentially give it away. Thanks for all of your advice and suggestions.
