I've read numerous posts over the years about people receiving someone else's purchase from an eBay seller. Everyone wanted to do the right thing and return the item back to the seller. Sometimes not as easy as one would think since some sellers drop ship from other sites.
Saturday UPS delivered an electric quesadilla maker shipped from Home Depot. My address - someone else's name. Don't know how that happened as I have never ordered anything shipped to me from Home Depot. If it was sent as a gift to the person named on the shipping label but the sender got the address wrong, well everybody makes mistakes. If it was a drop shipper from eBay they will probably be out of luck as UPS will return it to Home Depot.
I'm leaving for a 2 week vacation early Tuesday morning so I have to deal with UPS Monday along with myriad other things before I go.
What bothers me most is that Home Depot didn't bother to place the item inside a shipping box. Just slapped a shipping label on the exterior of the product box. Very colorful product box so it took me a moment to find the shipping label on it. And it arrived with the box damaged.
Thank goodness the vast majority of eBay sellers are wise enough to package an item correctly before shipping it 😉

Don't know how to help but I hope you have a great vacation.

Interesting dilemma. If it were me I'd drop it off at the nearest UPS depot or shipping store and be done with it. I would also be irritated to have to deal with it in between other things, but also wouldn't want to be thinking about it all vacation, either.

Is there any possibility that the name is that of someone who lives on your street and the seller just messed up the number?

You don't really have time to do the detective work since you are leaving on vacation I'm sure. But, using the brand name on the box, I'd check into fairly recent sales on eBay and perhaps make an attempt to contact sellers.

I'd probably do a quick search on the name, just in case it's a neighbor. But outside of that, I'd just enjoy my vacation & my new electric quesadilla maker 😉

I'd be inclined to put it aside for a bit to see if I hear from someone. Later, when time permits, I'd probably do some detective work, but it wouldn't be a priority. BTW---what the heck is this thing you call a vacation?

As the OP's name was not on the package there might be some question about the legality of that 🙂

My comment was tongue in cheek, but as I'd already said, I would make an effort to find out if it was a neighbor. After that, I don't think OP has any obligation to do anything else. If he called AMZN, they would tell him to keep it. He doesn't know who it belongs to. It's not realistic to expect a recipient to do more than a few minutes worth of investigation. I would have no qualms keeping it, after doing a search to see if it was a neighbor. Though I'd probably sell it b/c I've never had a need to make a quesadilla 😃

I'd put the box aside until after your vacation, then after that I'd make a legit attempt to return it, but I wouldn't spend tons of time on it. I'd give it to UPS as a rejected package when back from vacation - either give to the driver next time he comes by with a delivery or the next time you pass by a UPS location.
Either this was a legit gift and the sender got the address wrong, or it was a drop shipped order where the fault could lie with either buyer or seller for entering the wrong address.

If I were you i would go and enjoy your vacation. When you get back just bring it to a Home Depot and said you never ordered it. I'm sure they can figure out who ordered and will refund original buyer.

OK, just wanted to clarify. Lots, and lots of people come read on these boards, and could possibly confuse an "unsolicited item" being "free" to keep, with one that "does not have their name on it" being "free" just because it got delivered to their address 🙂

Thank you! Attending a wedding and looking forward to ocean breezes and sunshine 😁

Thank you for the suggestion. That's probably what I will do.
Wish there was a way I could make sure it got to the real recipient.

Wish it was that easy. No one with that name on my street which is 3 blocks long in a residential neighborhood.
Thanks for the thought!
