I haven’t even logged into or used eBay since March, and I was just a buyer. It has been at least 3 years (probably longer) since I have sold ANYTHING on eBay.
Suddenly, this morning, I’m getting an email from eBay saying I successfully changed my account type from individual to business, opened an eBay store AND subscribed to a fee based service to be a seller... which will cost me a monthly fee. **bleep**?!
My account is 100% secure. As I said I haven’t even used eBay in 3 months. I wasn’t worried about my account being hacked and I’m still not, but I changed my PW anyway. I’ve cancelled my “subscription” (that I never signed up for), and eBay says I’ll be charged fees for my store (that I didn’t create) until July 1 (for a store I didn’t ask for that was open for maybe 40 minutes).
I just find this whole thing very bizarre.
Did this / has this happened to anyone lately?

Thank you! Great info, much appreciated. I already have 2 factor, that’s how I knew about the store so quickly. Was opened and closed in 27 minutes.

When you go that email, did you log in to see if you had a store?
Did the email address you by name?
If not, and it's "Dear Customer" or something like that, it's probably a scam.

I would call ebay.......if you go to help/contact there is a link to talk to Trust and Safety for reporting hacks..... they should be able to cancel any charges........the store still shows (nothing in it).....
Does ANYONE.......child/spouse........have your ebay information or has anyone ever used your account to buy something?

IMHO no online account is 100% secure.

What was the fee based service? Maybe there's a clue there.

Actually, it's been happening a lot lately. We're reading as many of these posts as we are of car scams lately.
What is really up??

There has been an uptick in reports across social media lately of eBay accounts being compromised/hijacked. We've been dealing with a very sophisticated triangulation fraud situation for over 2 months that is using compromised accounts and I have a personal friend whose account was just hacked a few days ago and used in an attempt to list fraudulent items. https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/Increasing-instances-of-fraudulent-not-authorized-orders/m-p/3...
There is definitely something going on right now in regard to account security, so follow up and do not let eBay charge you a dime for something you didn't agree to, especially if your account was compromised.
Changed password is good, but you may want to consider enabling 2 factor authentication as well.

There isn't one thing described here that would make me feel that my account was 100% secure or hadn't just been hacked. None of that sounds normal, and hopefully, not common. Please let us know.

Yes, positive. I never click on links in emails or texts. I logged into the official eBay app after I got the email, which did in fact address me by my full and correct name. And sure enough, I had a store AND a subscription for selling on eBay that I had to cancel.

No, I never click on links in emails.
I logged into the official eBay app after I got the email (which yes, did have my full name on it, not “dear customer”)

I don’t think I should have to call eBay to cancel something I never signed up for.
but, I might be forced to, idk we will see.
And no, not a single living soul has my account information.

@utbooklady If a store was added to your account without your knowledge then you were hacked.
You will call ebay in step 6. The security dept is supposed to be taking phone calls, let me know if you have trouble getting a CS agent.
#1 Run a full scan with your virus software to remove any spyware from your computer.
#2 Go to my ebay> account> addresses and make sure that all information is correct including your cell phone number and registered email
https://accountsettings.ebay.com/uas/addresses
#3 My ebay> account> communication prefrences> delivery options make sure that ALL of the email addresses are correct.
https://my.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MyEbayBeta&CurrentPage=MyeBayNextNotificationPreferences&ssPage...
#4 Change your passwords and secret questions. My ebay> account> sign in and security
https://accounts.ebay.com/acctsec/security-center
#5 Secure your PayPal and email accounts. Change the passwords and secret questions. Be sure to use different passwords and secret questions on eBay, your email, and PayPal. Do not use these passwords on any other account.
#5 If you allowed "quicker checkout" on eBay or other websites (not recommended) you can disable that by logging in to PayPal, then click the gear symbol ⚙ (top right). Click the Security tab, then Auto login at checkout > Update, then disable auto-login for all devices > save the settings
#6 Calling is the only way to report hacked accounts for security reasons.
IF you are outside the US or Canada you will need to use Skype to call.
https://support.skype.com/en/faq/fa10613/how-do-i-make-a-call-on-skype
Select call us from the bottom of this page:
https://www.ebay.com/help/account/protecting-account/get-help-hacked-account?id=4196&st=2&pos=1&quer...
Ask them to check for any other active sessions and to end them all, this is VERY important as it will sign the hacker out of they are using the stay signed in option.
This is where you can ask eBay to remove any transactions from your account and refund your money. Be sure to ask for a credit for sellers fees if the hacker used your account to sell any items.
#7 If you are a seller then be sure to check the email address on any listings as hackers will often change this so that funds from sales go to their paypal account and not yours.
#8 For extra protection consider turning on two-step verification. It's towards the bottom of this page:
