I have listed a group of Rainbow Brite Sprites multiple times; the item sells and each time the buyer does not pay. This seems unusual. Is there something weird going on with this particular item?

Not necessarily it happens with BIN when there is no IPR, for offers and auctions where the buyer does not pay for any number of reasons. EBay has a new autopay feature for auctions and offers that has not been fully rolled out yet but you can turn on as a seller to potentially help reduce the non-payers. Ebabling this does come with some tradeoffs that you are discussed in this forum in a number of posts. To enable the autopay feature.

FYI, since the fall 2023 seller update, this is no longer in a roll-out phase for offers. All buyers are now required to add a payment method when they make an initial offer.

I don't know whether sellers can still turn this off for their own listings. I haven't seen anyone confirm whether the unchecking the box removes the requirement from their best offer listings or not. I expect it probably still works, since eBay hasn't removed the option to set the requirement.

This is how you fix this situation:
Fixed buy it now price, NO best offers, immediate payment required checked off. I use this feature daily and when I have a sale, I always get paid. You will get more serious buyers with this listing feature. We as sellers are here to make money, not chase it. Sorry for your frustration.
Happy Selling and Holidays

Thank you for the link. I was aware they had done this for the OBO function but OP's items were auction and not sure if they have made that the standard yet. If they have I can confirm that as a seller you have the option to still turn it off and it will apply. I had several auction items that sold at the end of November where the buyers all paid but in some cases it was a day or two after the auction ended.

Yes, the requirement for a payment method is now required when making an offer, as well as when purchasing a BIN item with IPR. It's currently being tested for auctions, and they plan to also implement it for seller-sent offers and for counter offers.
I'm not sure how prevalent it is for auctions. I have not been asked for a payment method yet when bidding on auctions. I was in the buyer test group shortly after they started testing it for offers (a year or 2 ago?), but then I was taken out again after a few months. Since the fall update, I have not been able to make any offers without being asked for a payment method, so I wasn't sure if sellers could still turn it off.

Yes, sometimes the traditional ways are best.
The one thing that is for sure with a BIN is you will never get more for the item than what you initially listed it for unless it is a scam. Both BIN and auctions have their pro's and con's and while BIN is best for some items auctions work better for others.

That's true, but for mass-produced items that are also available from other sellers, the seller can anticipate a reasonable fixed price.

Are you talking about the ones you sold yesterday, the 13th? Doesn't the buyer have several days to pay?

Yes I realize that. I'm not normally impatient but this has happened twice before with this item; I'm starting to wonder if there's some kids game on tictok or something. 😊

I've been seeing this a lot lately too. I've had a phone up for months. A newer ebayer with very little feedback bids on it, wins it and never pays, just like now, my item has a bidder with 0 feedback on a 2.5 year old account, it'll end without payment. I think people have throwaway accounts used to tie up items so that someone else's sells in the meantime. eBay needs to change how this works. It should be setup that the payment is automatic at the end of a auction just like how buy it now works. It'll stop a lot of this bidding and never paying.

Gosh with Christmas here, I would think they would pay right away to get it in the mail ASAP. It is strange.
