Question about refund.

Hello new to selling, had a question. I sold a package and had tracking on it. The USPS was terrible last month with delivery. Item was supposed to be delivered Dec 9 and still hadn’t arrived by Jan. 1st. Buyer wanted a refund and package just showed it was in transit. Buyer opened a case with eBay for refund and package was Delivered and they refused package. eBay closed the case and was in my favor no refund now package is being sent back to me. How should I handle this? Any help appreciated

Frankly, it's probably up to your conscience unless the buyer involves Paypal or their cc company.   You will have item back and have the $$ as I understand it.....since ebay found in your favor on the case which I presume was for non receipt.

Contact the buyer and ask what s/he would like you to do: either ship it to the buyer again or send the buyer a refund via PayPal.

Question about refund.

Well, I would just refund back his money only when you receive this package back.

How many times have we read that buyers get a refund and keep the item? It's really not fair either way is it?

Block that buyer once your done with them. Best of luck to you.

Question about refund.

here's how...don't worry about it. Let them call ebay, ebay may or may not refund them at ebays cost.

its not your issue anymore

You shouldn't have to eat shipping costs either

If item gts back to you, you decide if you refund minus shipping...or not.

Question about refund.

The ethical thing is to refund the customer.

Depending on the expense of the item, i likely would not make a buyer wait weeks for the package to be returned to me. I’d refund now, rather than when the package came back, but my risk tolerance is pretty high.

I also would not deduct shipping costs from the refund. It is not the buyer’s fault the package was grossly delayed. In eBayland, the postal carrier is an extension of the seller. But as the case was closed in your favor, eBay’s rule is satisfied. Now it is strictly up to you. Good luck and wish you continued success on eBay.

Question about refund.

Totally up to you.

Ebay does not require refunds when customers refuse packages, which is why the case was closed in your favor.

I'm actually glad to hear this because a few weeks ago, ebay refunded a customer of mine who requested his package be delivered to his local post office, then refused to pick it up and opened a case. Ebay refunded him even as the package lay waiting for him at the post office with status "Available for Pickup", but they later reversed that decision. I had worried that they might be getting wishy-washy on their refund policy in these cases of buyer package refusal, so I'm glad to not see evidence that they are.

So, if it were me, I would refund the buyer, minus costs, which in my case would be shipping. I would politely inform the buyer, and I would expect that they would be OK with it, but if they started creating problems I would consider blocking them.

Whatever you decide, it's over as far as ebay is concerned, and blocking is always an option.

If you are having trouble getting a "call me back" choice through the Help & Contact link found on most eBay pages, try going to eBay's Facebook page or Twitter. I have heard good things about customer service reps being particularly responsive on Facebook. Good luck.
