Promoted Listings Priority Cost Per Click Minimum 10X Increase

Apparently not only is eBay jacking up the minimum rates for Promoted Listings General campaigns using the Dynamic strategy, they've also increased the minimum per click bid amounts from $0.02 to $0.10 - $0.20 depending on how you have the campaign set up.

When it was pointed out to eBay that their policy page still said $0.02, they just did a stealth edit a few days later while not acknowledging the issue or that it was a change.

Just wanted to make this a separate topic in case anyone missed it in the other discussion:

This part of the program strikes me as sucker-bait.

The original Promoted Listings still has a minimum fee of 2%, but that is only paid if it works.

So eBay has a reason to promote those listings.

EBay has no reason to promote the PL Priority  listings since they already have been paid for.

I found that PL original flavour at 2% increases my Views, but that the sales for Promoted listings are lower than the percentage of my listings that are promoted.

This makes me think that  while PL attracts eyeballs, those eyeballs go on to browse my Stores and buy what they want, not necessarily what PL was advertising.

If you like, it's the supermarket flyer. You go in for the 99c turkey in the flyer, and buy the regular priced potatoes and canned soup as well or even instead.

@reallynicestamps you may want to check out my other thread about the changes they also made to Promoted Listings General.

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/Promoted-Listings-Dynamic-Rate-Minimum-Now-5-Check-Your-Genera...

They raised the minimum for General (cost per sale) campaigns that use Dynamic rates from 2% to 5%.

While it's true that technically the minimum for General campaigns with Fixed Rate can still be set at 2%, since those ads compete with Dynamic ads that were just forced to raise their rates it may make it so those using Fixed Rate will also have to increase in order to try to keep the same visibility they previously had.

Ultimately a rising tide may lift all boats....or all Promoted Listings fees.

The question then becomes : "Do the Dynamic rates work better than the Fixed Rates?"

Just as the question was "Does paying more for PL  give higher sales for the PL items or sale generally?"

Any advertising program eBay promotes is good for eBay.

It's up to the seller to decide if it is any good for them.

Their solution: Raise fees some more. I pretty much give up at this point. It's just not worth the effort here anymore. If I make sales, I make sales. I am not paying any more in fees than I have to. UGH. This is so disgusting. My potential buyers are not even being shown my products like they used to.

Re: Promoted Listings Priority Cost Per Click Minimum 10X Increase

Despite continual postings about the use of PL, that some ignored, PL has always been a race to the bottom and puts sellers who use(d) the program in the prisoners dilemma mode. It's a play on human nature. If nobody had ever started using PL the playing field would be level but those that elected to use it did so in an attempt to gain a perceived advantage which may or may not exist. EBay continues to play on that perception by raising rates, raising the minimum rates or suggesting higher % rates at every turn.

There is no way to prove that the use of PL increases sales it does however increase eBay's revenue stream in most cases.

Re: Promoted Listings Priority Cost Per Click Minimum 10X Increase

Just received a message "clarifying" how eBay has changed how they charge seller fees. About as clear as mud and extremely convoluted. It changes NOTHING for me. It is just not worth putting forth the effort here (as I have in the past) anymore unless they stop scalping sellers, which also affects buyers. I am so tired of being nickel and dimed constantly by the corporate sector that is trying to tread water, but in reality, is drowning itself. They are trying to hold onto an old paradigm that can no longer work.  The answer, if they ever figure it out, is to take a stance that is opposite from greed and fear. In the meantime, onward and upward. Best wishes to everyone for the upcoming year and inevitable changes!

Probably a posting ID, lots of sellers and buyers have multiple accounts: selling, buying, posting............

For those who have been following along, the Marketing Terms update eBay just dropped contains language that gives them a lot more leeway to make changes just like this with no notice to sellers in the future.
