Price Gouging

Ebay should not be a platform for disreputable and unethical sellers to price gouge their products. I hold Ebay to a higher level and believe it to be a completely upstanding website.

Re: Price Gouging

It is possible the Disney item was reported to Disney and eBay was requested by Disney to remove it accordingly... Disney has very strict policies about its items...

Re: Price Gouging

What items? Playstation 5?  I got a warning about price gouging for placing clothing for Barbie dolls for a very fair price. Lol. I don't even know how they consider Barbie doll clothing price gouging but they did. A vintage Ken outfit from the 1960s LOL. Because somehow that's an essential item. The bot would not even let me list it it didn't even make sense

Re: Price Gouging

There are a lot of sellers in these forums content with this behavior and openly participate in it. Don't give any of them your money. What Ebay is allowing is wrong and I hope they can face a law suit for it in the future. It's one thing to pay a markup for an item that is a one of a kind, something old, or something you have an option from multiple places to by so the market is COMPETITIVE. It's another to COMPLETELY wipe multiple stores of their inventory and sell the product on 1 site for a ridiculous markup and wipe out consumer chose. This is not a free market if buyers are being this manipulative and greedy.  I've seen them listed for as much as 30k, Ebay your foul for allowing this behavior all of these buyers should be banned and no further sales of the ps5 on this site should be allowed until consumers can be given back their choice. It doesn't matter if its a necessity or not it doesn't give you the right to wipe consumers of their choice.

What is price gouging and why is it illegal?

Price gouging is when a seller significantly and excessively raises the pricing of their products or services. ... The majority of states have laws stating that price gouging is illegal during a disaster or state of emergency. Price gouging laws are a type of consumer protection.

@backli-14 ,

You wrote on an almost 1 year old topic:

Hmmm,
Are we still  a state of emergency where necessities such as TP, hand sanitizer, masks etc., are hard to come by?  Do you feel that something like a vintage hard to find sports card that came in a bazooka bubble gum pack that cost a nickel in 1959 should not sell for $1,000 or more?   If so, you must go bat shirt crazy when a piece of art from one of the masters, sells for over a million dollars or a Marilyn Monroe worn dress sells for about the same price. What about vintage cars, statues, Ming dynasty vases... ad infinitum?

If something is desirable and no longer in production or available, it will go up in value, sometimes astronomically.  If people did not want those things, their value would be considerably less.  That is the way of the world.

These days many items have become hard to get. Most of them because of pandemic related shortages and most are not essential, to anyone's health, quality of life, or well being.  I'll bet you would pay scalper's prices for your favorite band's sold out concert, but scream if the newest video game console or graphics card which is in short supply, is selling for much more than MSRP.

Is that a statement or a question?
