Premature Feedback for Items Sold

I have had a store on Ebay for approximately 5 years.  Every month before the month is over I receive a message asking me to leave feedback for items sold.  I believe that this would be giving buyers a premature feedback.  Sellers should have a full 30 days to give buyers feedback that would meet that requirement.

I don't like getting the message every month and I do ignore them.  My message is being placed here because I don't appreciate getting any message like these and would like to know how I could forward such a message to Customer Service so they can address the matter.  Maybe find out who does this and why.

Does anyone else receive messages to give premature feedback besides me?  And why would anyone send a message out like that?

@fern*wood

I would be very happy to be wrong about this.  But I do not see in my Preferences where I can do this.

But with that said, I did find it.  Your posts inspired me to look closer and I did find it.

For those interested if finding this option, here is a link.  It is at the bottom of the page.

IMHO it is odd that they include an email if the feedback is removed.  Seems that should be a separate option.

But thank you for getting me to look closer at this.  I honestly appreciate it.

All sellers who don't provide feedback in advance to their buyers recieve that monthly message. Just ignore the message, move on, enjoy some Christmas cookies, & don't worry so much about feedback timing.

Merry Christmas!

Evidently ebay doesn't agree with your personal definition of "premature feedback". Just ignore it.

Define "premature"?

You can leave feedback

Immediately after a buyer has purchased

After you have shipped

After the order is delivered

Before the buyer leaves for you

After the buyer leave for you

Anytime within 60 days of the sale

Or if you prefer.....NEVER

I don't get eBay's reminder messages that often because even with my lazy attitude about feedback I've usually left it before eBay needs to send a reminder/

I checked my emails, seems I've been getting them occasionally since 2021, some of them reminders as a buyer. Almost all of them are "unread" because I know what they are from the subject line.

eBay does ask nicely, they say please and it is NOT a "requirement".

You take some real unnecessary risks with your own feedback when you ignore your buyers.  But you certainly have the right to do it.

Feedback is a voluntary system.  Neither the buyer or the seller have to leave feedback.  Both parties have up to 60 days from the purchase to leave feedback.

I'm not sure why you don't want to leave buyers feedback when they ask you, but I'm sure you have your reasons.  At some point your approach to just blow them off will likely backfire on you and they will leave you a negative or neutral that may or may not be removeable.

But if you responded to them and apologized for the delay and just say you had gotten very busy but you understand how important feedback is.  Then tell them you will get it taken care of in the next day or two.  Then again apologize for your delay.

It does not have to be a big deal unless you want to make it one.  Most buyers don't even leave feedback anymore.  For me, not even 25% of my buyers leave feedback.  I have my account set to automatically leave feedback after the buyer leaves feedback.  But if a buyer were to contact me before they left feedback asking me for their feedback, I would respond as I suggested above, then leave the feedback for them.

This feedback chase isn't worth the time and again at some point it will likely backfire on you, then you will be scrambling to get the negative or neutral feedback removed.  Simply not worth it.

I never get asked for "premature feedback" as I leave positive feedback for my customers as soon as they buy/pay.

People read emails from eBay?

If you are talking about some type of reminder from ebay, can you turn it off in your preferences?   I've never received such an email because I don't hold my feedback for buyers and actually have it set up to be given automatically for me.  Yeah, I like to take the easiest route when I can.

I turned off messages like this from eBay so I dont receive them.

If I did receive an email from eBay, I would ignore it. Like the many others eBay sends.

I have never received negative FB because I dont send FB to buyers 1st.

FB is not required from buyers or sellers.

If a buyer gives me FB, I give them FB.

I think eBay should do away with the whole FB thing. It is antiquated and causes more issues than anything. Thats just my opinion.

Just ignore the messages from eBay.

I don't leave feedback until the buyer does. I now have 50 shipments waiting feedback.

I have learned to stop pumping buyers feedback while mine sits idle.

The other issue is leaving a positive up front and then down the road the buyer decides to post a negative or neutral.

Only buyers can turn off the feedback reminder.  Sellers can't.

I understand that under communication with buyers that ebay states they will send a feedback reminder to buyers after a month, but I'm talking about the setting under account preferences.   There is a setting under communication preferences>general preferences which states "Edit your feedback notification preferences. Be notified when you need to leave feedback or feedback is removed."   I thought that would work.

Feedback left for buyers is worthless and irrelevant.

It must be positive.

Only paranoid sellers read it, and they only can after the sale is made.

I have Ebay leave automatic FB because my time has value and when I waste it, I get to choose how I waste it.

Same here. Been rolling with the automagic feedback since eBay offered it up. Buyer pays, feedback left and never waste a minute on it.

Leaving feedback as a buyer takes time but I do it anyways. I must have ebay old-timer syndrome.
