I have bought an item today from a wonderful seller and when he confirmed my offer, he said he needed payment although my bank app says i have already paid the amount due on ebay. Is this a common problem? What am i able to do to fix this?

Exact message is "Hi jrdco49,
Thanks for your business! I am ready to ship the following item: (ITEM NAME AND PRICE)
Unfortunately, I can't ship the above until I've received a payment. Can you please let me know when I can expect a payment?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks!"Yes! That's the exact message I received from multiple sellers, although the most recent one I received was way back on January 18th of this year, so I thought they had that problem fixed. Apparently not.
Now that you have posted the original wording, I was able to find the posting I was looking for earlier, which turned out to be over in the Technical Issues group and not the Buying group. No one ever replied to it. 🙄
What's up with these messages devon@ebay kyle@ebay elizabeth@ebay ? Several buyers are reporting receiving the same odd message that appears to be system-generated, but gives the appearance the seller sent it.
Found another from 2022:

I found a lot more through Google but I'm not going to link them all.
Hey @wastingtime101 that's an interesting question! I can't say that I've ever seen a situation where eBay sends a message on behalf of a member, as though it came FROM that member. But, that being said, I can also understand the reasoning behind that conclusion too.
I'll see what I can find out about what's going on with those messages, and let you all know if I find something definitive.

Well, that post has a response now. Better late than never.
eburtonlab is a total champ and does most of the heavy lifting on the tech issues board. I do what I can - wish I could do more. Some others make regular appearances, but very few posters consistently, actively respond to posts on that board. It stands to reason there will be some questions that go without a reply when so few are there to answer questions. Heck, even the Selling board with its voluminous traffic has many posts that sit unanswered.

@jrdco49 wrote:I feel that I should just generally give an update here as now I am able to see everything as intended by ebay (I was on mobile and the formatting was slightly different than what I'm seeing now). I made an offer to the seller which took $96.41 out of my bank account and the seller accepted my payment. I now get left with ebay telling me "You've committed to buy this item. Please go to checkout and pay." I have already paid and I called my bank asking if they know if I'm on any sort of hold or if my payment is still actually pending and the person on the other end of the line said something along the lines of "everything points to your payment being processed currently, you should be good to go." So I'm currently anxiously awaiting a notification that my payment has posted to my banking app and the seller has started the shipping process of my item.
Did your payment clear @jrdco49 ?

This morning I talked to a customer support agent and my takeaway from it is that this has happened before and I have to wait and I'll get my money back. I was told to contact my bank again, but I didn't as I can't get my money back until the payment has actually cleared. It is still pending which is infuriating. It has never taken this long during business days to clear any purchase. Basically I need to wait for my bank to clear my payment then I can get my money back and try again I guess. This whole thing has really shied me away from using ebay though.

WHOA this is some spooky stuff. And it pre-dates autopay, so apparently that has nothing to do with it.
EDIT: And the 2023 one wasn't even for an offer but an AUCTION. And the message "from the seller" was only a half-hour after the auction closed.
SO WEIRD! The way the wording is identical ...... I don't get it. It doesn't even seem like it could be someone hacking into the accounts, because how would they get the money?

Also @jrdco49 have you written to the seller at all? I would be very curious to see what they would say if you copy-pasted that message and asked if they actually wrote it, because you found out the identically-worded message has been sent to various other buyers.

It's just an automatically-generated message tied to some kind of condition in the payment process. As far as how it was created or written, it's no different than any other eBay-written message (e.g. other payment reminders).
What makes it strange is that it's masquerading as a message from the seller, when it isn't, and it's a payment demand being generated after payment has already been made, so it arrives as a bit of a mystery to the buyer, since he's already paid. I suspect that the seller, if asked, will know nothing about it.
So, @jrdco49 and kyle@ebay : do either of you have any updates before we go into the weekend? Thanks!

My bank finalized my “payment” and I immediately got my money back into my account between midnight last night EST and 9:30 this morning EST. i contacted the seller to no response at the moment

Hopefully they understand this was nothing you did wrong, otherwise they might just consider you more trouble than you're worth.

The seller? Maybe, but I have to fulfill my order promise so they do too. They still haven't said anything but now I have ordered for if I don't my account gets banned for a year.

OH I guess I am not clear on what happened. Anyway it seems the seller didn't block you or anything so that's good.

At this point I'm not sure I am either. @jrdco49 : Did your bank determine that you actually did pay twice, and rolled back the second payment, or were you just trying to cancel out of the first payment?
Did that apparently-erroneous message from eBay (the one purporting to be from the seller) cause you to cancel the first payment by mistake? 🤔
