Payment dispute question.

I just received the dreaded email of a payment dispute for one of my items (of course it is one of my more expensive ones).    I heard nothing from this buyer and they bypassed opening a return through ebay.   There are two options for me to choose from and neither sound good.

I would like to get my item back, but it says I can challenge and provide proof or accept the dispute and refund.   I see no option to get my item returned.

This is a not as described dispute and in the details I was given as to the reason is another buyer's ID and a discussion about a totally different item than mine.  So, I have no clue what was wrong with my item or what I can offer as proof.

Any tips on how to get my item back or do I just refund and move on?

That's a pretty glaring error (of some kind). Is the ID mentioned in the details an active eBay account? Is that account used for purchases or sales? I'm thinking it might be worth reaching out to the eBay for Business contacts on Facebook for this one.

It's true that you can't defend against a dispute for someone else's purchase, unless this is just a scammer who's somehow copying-and-pasting multiple disputes, and accidentally used the same problem description on all of them.

Reach out to eBay on Facebook

Find out as much as you can about it, and don't give up and refund that easily.

Something doesn't add up... Sounds like a glitch.

Re: Payment dispute question.

I hate to admit it, but I don't even know how to find out if the ID is a seller now.  I used to know how to search IDs, but not anymore.   I read the details in the dispute a couple times and it really makes no sense to me.  It sounds like it is my buyer talking to another seller about receiving a box with paper in it instead of a vacuum.   I didn't sell a vacuum.

Thanks, I just sent a message using your link.  I'm not sure what all the might want, but hopefully they can help.

Re: Payment dispute question.

Okay, it finally hit me how to look up that other ID in my dispute.  It is a current seller and they sold a vacuum around the same time my item sold and it cost one dollar more than my item.

Okay, you are definitely going to want to reach out to eBay for Business on Facebook to see if they can help with this mixup. I strongly doubt that the usual Customer Service phone droids have anything in their phone scripts to fit this scenario, and definitely would not have the clout to affect anything. (This may end up having to be un-snarled by the buyer himself. If you still have your sale accessible on your Sold Items page, the buyer's phone number should be found on the View Order Details page, via the pulldown menu in the Actions column for that item.)

Re: Payment dispute question.

Thanks everyone.  I've slept on this mess and ready to go now.   Facebook hasn't written me back yet and I did email my buyer last evening asking what was the problem with my item since they did the charge back, but no response.  So, now I'm off to search for that number.

Re: Payment dispute question.

Sounds like your buyer may have selected the wrong charge on their CC account history to dispute, hope you can get with them today and get this straightened out

Re: Payment dispute question.

This looks like a complete screw up and buyer not recognizing the item in dispute. This will require an intelligent response from ebay and and investigation by the CC company . This is messed up bad. I am not sure what the solution to this one is. You need to call somebody on Ebay and explain this situation. Do not rely on the auto with the dispute challenged option on this one.

Re: Payment dispute question.

Yeah I was wondering how a scam artist could possibly do this. If they can, one more massive risk factor on here. I certainly hope not.

Re: Payment dispute question.

As there are more incidents of people stealing cars as was reported in the news recently due to this economy. There may be more people attempting CC chargebacks as well.

@a_c_green

I'm not used to this facebook thing.  I just received a message with a link wanting me to authorize them to look at my account.  My husband isn't comfortable with the link and letting an unknown have access our info.  Is this the normal procedure and is it safe?
