I just sold 2 different items to the same buyer. Instead of "paid" or "ship" it says "payment total requested". I've never had this happen before. Why is this even possible when the prices and shipping charges are clearly listed? Other than send the buyer a email telling him to go ahead and check out, what am i supposed to do?

At least you admit to being one. 🙂

It is sort of ironic that we see so many sellers complaining that buyers are having problems asking for an invoice and you have the exact opposite problem. 🙂
I was under the impression that if a seller enabled immediate payment required, a buyer could not ask for an invoice from the cart. Did you double check that option is still checked off for your listings? I used to be able to see that info on a listing under the payment tab but I don't see it now. If you still see the option on those listings, perhaps the rules have changed?
Also, many of your listings seem to have combined shipping set up even if the items are purchased from different listings but are you sure that you have that set up for those listings? I thought that I saw some listings without a combined shipping rule. If it is set up, an invoice shouldn't be necessary.

I have multiple items bought from a single buyer all the time, almost every day.
They are paid for, packed and shipped usually the same day. I don't have to wait for payment. I like that.
Get paid immediately vs. wait for payment. There's an interesting business strategy.
No, you have lots of the same item sold to a buyer. What you are saying is that you don't want someone buying your candy, nuts, trinkets and doo-dads because you are too inconvenienced to send a revised invoice for sales consisting of different items.
I'm not knocking your business. I just think it's kind of interesting that you are complaining about getting a sale. Sorry if I ruffled any feathers.
No, what is "kind of interesting" is that suddenly, unannounced and out of the blue, "Instant Payment Required" no longer means "Instant Payment Required".
Period.

Really?? No announcement anywhere on eBay? Is it possible it's just a glitch? Has the same thing happened to you?
I've never asked for immediate payment so all I know about it is what I read here.
If I did have that requirement and was going through what the OP has had to go through, I wouldn't be happy at all. I hope this problem is resolved.

Not really - when ebay decided to implement forced IPR on sellers you found you could only override that by adding items to the cart & requesting a total.
Unfortunately (like most of these phased rollouts) it got borked and now sometimes that works and sometimes it doesn't. And sellers have no way of knowing if their IPR has been overriden by the ebay 'forced IPR'.

After having several days to think about it, never being paid for my "immediate payment required" items, my customer just asked me to cancel his order.
