Payment Dispute and Final Value Fee Resolution

Hello, I just received a payment dispute on an Item not as described.  I decided to challenge the dispute as the buyer never contacted me or asked for a return. In less than 2 business days I am being told by Ebay I have lost the challenge and I must now pay the full amount to the buyer, less sales tax. I do not have my item back, I paid for the shipping, paid the $20 challenge fee and Ebay charged me final value fees for the item and did not credit them back when refunding the buyer. Is this normal? I can see the $20 and being out the shipping fee, but I have no merchandise, no payment and Ebay charged me $86.29 for final value fees for a transaction that was fully refunded by me. and the buyer kept my item.  I'm a little perplexed at the outcome and curious if anyone else has had similar issues.

If there was a $20 fee, the buyer went thru their cc.If you 'challenged' the return, you wont get your fvfs back. And with a cc chargeback, the buyer is not required to return the item, sorry.

SO just so I understand. Ebay got paid, The buyer got my merch for free and I'm out an additional $200 on top of losing my item and returning what ebay paid me?

Re: Payment Dispute and Final Value Fee Resolution

That is normal.  That is why many people never challenge chargebacks, as most types are hard to win.  You needed to supply undeniable evidence that the item is as described, which is pretty much impossible.  Your better approach would have been to request the item back during the chargeback and see if the card issuer would let you require it for a refund (usually even that fails) or just eat it and accept the chargeback.  Challenging it often doesn't work out well, and by law, they are not required to make the customer return the item, and rarely do.

Re: Payment Dispute and Final Value Fee Resolution

Buyer filed a dispute with their banking institution probably as a charge they didn't recognize.

Kinda sounds like buyer knew what they can do. It does happen.

I suggest looking at feedback of a buyer and how new they are.

I don't know if you do the "signature required"  for delivery....but make sure signature is a written and not a digital signature...they both cost the same.

Very hard to challenge a banking dispute and you will be charged $20.+ for it.

And item will not be returned.

Best to just move on and leave "no" feedback where new potential buyers can read your replies.

Sometimes no feedback left can be better as an outcome.

Re: Payment Dispute and Final Value Fee Resolution

if there was a tracking number showing delivery, the O.P. should have received a notice from eBay that the buyer has filed a case with C.C. that they did not recognize transaction (simply a scam), but you are covered with eBay seller protection.

A lot said by O.P. that I really don't follow and fully piece together. A $20 fee for challenging?

I believe eBay and C.C. companies are starting to keep count of such possible false claims.

Re: Payment Dispute and Final Value Fee Resolution

I don't know where the replies here are getting their information.

Seems like an INAD chargeback, and his reason for contesting is because they didn't contact him.

INAD chargebacks are hard enough. If you don't collect all the evidence you have and make a good argument then you will fail pretty fast.

Challenging a chargeback and losing results in a 20 dollar fee, and losing the FVF.

Decisions if chargebacks are made by the financial institution not eBay. All eBay does is forward your information.

Your only means to reclaim any funds is based on how far you want to go by taking matters outside of eBay like small claims court and such.

Most just write off on taxes.
