Part time to full time reselling

Hi!

I started reselling on eBay in may and have fallen in love with having my own little store. I currently work a full time job and ebay has been my side hustle. For different personal reasons, I am considering leaving my full time job and transitioning to full time reselling. Does anyone have any advice for me? Someone who has done the same and has been successful?

Keep your job, you aren’t securing the type of inventory that would allow you to be free of a traditional job. Those items you sell, mostly clothing won’t scale up on eBay. You’ll be working harder for less and less. Eventually you’ll be stuck with countless, long-tail items you can’t sell at any price.

So I have been trying to make a living on ebay.    

I would tell you to stick with your day job.   No insurance stinks.  Ebay is like having a psycho boss.   That said, the other online merchants seem worse.   

The question you have to ask yourself is where are you going to get the merchandise to sell at the levels you need to sell constantly in order to earn a living.   If it wasn't for tax parasites, you could just worry about cash flow, but the tax parasites require you to document everything you do, at your expense.   

Its a tough gig.

Also pretty sure if I went by the yearly numbers on here alone might have tossed the hobby..but year 3 or so and seems to be somewhat improving.

No matter how negative we all may sound, we are hoping that you will be successful at your new business.

Think about what all us old lags are telling you, and go for it.

You can succeed.

But don't be afraid to learn from the mistakes of others.

Well, if you hate your current job, you can always get a new one – one that is less stressful. And keep the eBay business.
