I had a package that was considered lost because there were no updates for almost a month, so i had to refund seller now it shows delivered a few days ago. The buyer is saying they haven't received it though. What can I do? It's over 800$ I can't afford that big of loss.

There is nothing you can do to force the buyer to repay. You can ask nicely and see how they respond.
Next time you are in this situation on a valuable item you should initiate an Intercept order with USPS (you only pay the fee if the intercept is successful).

Very sorry but unless your buyer voluntary pays you are not getting the money. I have 2 right now that are not nearly as much money that I have refunded and expecting to loose them

No I didn't ever file claim. I just assumed since it had been over 30 days since it showed any updates that it was lost. And the buyer filed a refund claim on ebay and I had to honor it since it had not been delivered yet, but a week after I did the package was delivered

I have asked a few times now and they haven't responded. So im just out the 800+$ then?

It may be a good idea to visit your local USPS and speak with the postmaster. You don't have to go into details of the eBay transaction. Just stick to the facts that it was delivered with signature, and the buyer is disputing the delivery. It is Fraud or it was stolen.

What do expect USPS to do?
It was late but it was delivered, any insurance there might have been will not pay out, it really doesn't matter what the recipient has told the shipper, none of that is a concern of USPS.

Contact eBay through Facebook. I've done it many times when I refunded on an INR that later got delivered. eBay has returned my money every time

Small claims court may be your only option. Is the buyer / thief really far away from you?

You should have had the package insured AND required a signature upon delivery, did you?
To be covered under Ebay Seller Protection, you are required to have signature confirmation on all packages over $750. I'm not saying that seller protection should kick in for you as it really shouldn't at this point, but you should have shipped it with signature required on delivery.
Why would you not file a claim with USPS?

That only happens, or usually only happens when the seller does NOT voluntarily refund the buyer. You can only appeal when Ebay forces the refund. If you got a refund outside of that, you got lucky as it isn't normal.

Ebay was allowing more time for delivery due to the winter storms this past month. It's too bad you didn't ask them for an extension. Your buyer is likely falsely claiming they didn't receive the package, esp since it was signed for. This is considered fraud & theft. GPS would show where the USPS delivered it in combination with the signature.
1. Contact ebay's fraud department and explain what happened.I think you need to file some type of appeal.
I've found ebay's Facebook page to be best place to start. Contact them via the messenger and briefly tell them what happened and you'd appreciate their assistance. Don't provide them any financial info, etc. When they reply they will give you a link that enables you to identify your user ID and name.
2. You may want to contact the buyer's local Police Dept. I say this mainly due to the item value and fact that you have signature. Some have internet fraud departments. I know this as I have a relative who's Chief of Police in his city.
3. File a postal fraud claim.
4. File a theft/fraud report at IC3.gov
5. Be sure you print out/download the USPS signature proof of delivery.
6. Keep records of proof of these reports via report numbers. Ebay may refund you due to this.
You may casually want to let the buyer know you'll be filing these reports since the USPS has signed proof of delivery, and you need to know what happened to this valuable package! Tell them the USPS fraud dept and police may be investigating and want to contact them. On occasion a buyer has suddenly 'found' the package.
I hope you can find some resolve in getting your money back! It's a shame there are so many dishonest people out there who take full advantage of these type of situations and fail to put themselves in the seller's shoes! I honestly don't know how some ppl sleep at nite!

Question - when you say you contacted Ebay via Facebook, do you put them on blast publicly? I have heard of people going on say Twitter when they do not get the resolution that they are looking for and because of public pressure the company capitulates. Could you explain in greater detail your process? Thanks in advance.
