Package not received

Hi!  I sold a shirt and tracking shows was delivered left in mailbox. Buyer says was not received. Either stole or post office  delivered wrong address or scamming   They reported item not received.  What do I do. I already contacted buyer to report after they messaged me not received . I have tracking as proof delivered  I don’t want to issue refund then I’m out payment and shirt. What do I do as the seller?  Thank you.

@sangu4772  You don't have to refund him, but you may want to depending on the situation & how much repeat customers are a part of your business.  I've been selling for 3 decades.  EVERY SINGLE ONE of these has turned out to be telling the truth!  Even on the few occasions I thought they were lying.   I only had one where we never got to the bottom of it.  If it's only been a day or 2, keep in mind that these normally resolve themselves pretty quickly when a neighbor brings over the pkg or the PO re-delivers it.   


Tell them to speak to their carrier OR you call & talk to their PO, I do it often b/c I know my way around this stuff way better than they do.  The USPS can via GPS tell exactly where it was delivered with one very big caveat.  If it's delivered to a cluster box, they can't tell where in the cluster box.  Problem is that's what 99% of these are.  Which is why 99% of the time they clear themselves up in a day or two.  

 

But my reccomendation is that you treat them the way you want to be treated when you're on the receiving end of this, b/c you will be at some point in time.  I just had it happen with a check that someone sent me worth over $10K.  I was sure happy for her cooperation & b/c of the deets she provided me & my knowing how to work the USPS, I got my check a few days later!   So, yeah, you'll win, but what would you want to have happen if you were the recipient?   Remember, in all my years, every single one was telling the truth.  But my demographic is not particularly scammy.

Tell her to open an item not received case, then provide the tracking number to prove delivery, you will win the case.

One step at a time, 1) tell buyer to file an item not received claim, 2) when that is filed, then respond to that with the tracking number, 3) if done properly as above, you will win the case. period.

Yes, they are out money. You don't know if the shirt was misdelivered, or the buyer is lying.

 

They can go to their post office and their postmaster can bring up the coordinates for the delivery using the tracking number. I had to do this last week and my parcel showed misdelivered.

Potentially. But if the tracking shows delivered, 99% of the time it has been delivered. It usually turns out that someone in the house picked up the mail and did not let the buyer know there was a package delivered. It'll show up. Or they need to reach out to their local post office and request that the GPS for the delivery scan be checked to see if it went into the wrong mailbox.

 

Don't let them guilt you into refunding something that shows delivered to their mailbox. You've done your job - gotten the package delivered to your buyer. At some point the buyer does need to do some investigation on their end.

They did file a claim.  I tried to enter the tracking information but its already defaulted in there and does not let me send anything.  How does ebay no that I'm responding to the claim when I cant send anything to them?  Sorry this is all a new experience for me.  Being reported for not received. Thank you for all your information.

That's normal, they didn't put the tracking into cases automatically up until not that long ago, but now it does pull it over.  You shouldn't need to do anything at this point, though I always use the case to send a message t to the customer with some simple tips about asking family and/or roommates if they got the package for them, checking with neighbors, etc.

The last one I had was just 2 month ago, I don't get many. The address was a apartment complex. I hate to sell to a apartments.  I found that the buyers apartment complex has a mail room with all the mailboxes in one room and there was a security camera. I told the buyer to ask the post man and then ask management to look into it. 2 days later buyer states she got the package.

Don't accuse buyer, but give them an idea where to look for it. Ask neighbors if hey have a camera, most houses do have them. Remind them that stealing mail is a crime.

Hi. He keeps messaging me how he gets a refund. I’ve recommended to go to post office and check with neighbors but he doesnt respond to that.  I can tell he’s agitated. I feel bad but I’d be out if I refund him.

The tracking will be prefilled, but you should see a button to submit / confirm tracking. Click that.

 

You can also reply with a comment that says something like:

Delivered to address on the order on [date] per USPS tracking [tracking number]. If you cannot locate the package I suggest checking with other members of your household, your neighbor, and your mail carrier. If the item was stolen from your porch or mailbox you can report theft to the police.

 

In a few days you'll see the option to ask eBay to step in. Click that link and follow the process. Case will be closed in your favor.

He can annoy you all he wants, but he's not entitled to a refund.  Don't let feeling bad for him push you into doing something you don't need to do.  In fact, if he gets too pushy, you can reasonably just block him and then you won't receive any more of his messages.

If tracking shows delivered, then you are not responsible and do not have to refund him.  As someone else said, he needs to go to his post office with the tracking number and they can look up in their system where the package was delivered; if he doesn't want to do that, that's his problem.  Also, you don't know if the package was taken by a mailbox pirate or not.  If so, that is on the buyer (not you) as it is the buyer's responsibility to provide a safe place for packages to be delivered.  You are not responsible if the package was stolen from his mailbox.
