Package in USPS possession

Hello. I have a large package that was picked up by my mailman. The package is now in USPs possession and a note was left for me to pick this package up at my post office. I picked up the package and will reship. Do I need a new label. I paid $74 for the current label that never left my post office. Thx!

Re: Package in USPS possession

What happened that it wasn't shipped the first time?

Re: Package in USPS possession

Why in the world did USPS ask you to pick it up? Ask the PO if your label will still work. This is just weird.

What was the reason the PO gave you for this?

The package was too big so I had to pick it up.

Too big for USPS to accept as a shipment?

If that is the case you may have to use a different shipper.

Re: Package in USPS possession

I split the package into two boxes and I was just wondering if I could reuse the ones label and buy one new one

Re: Package in USPS possession

No you can't use the same label..........the weight/measurements would be different.  Need to void the lst label, that you can't use.....they will refund the $$ in a week or so.

Hopefully that will be the case, but if tracking shows an Acceptance scan of the label, that postage is spent and probably not going to be refunded by USPS.

(To answer a question that no one has actually asked: eBay would have no involvement in this, so no need to try contacting eBay about it.)

Re: Package in USPS possession

Why didn't you ask THE people telling you the item is too big, when you were right there with them at the post office, with the item right there to discuss?  Why would we know better than them on exactly what you must do to get their service?

You would be much better off shipping something this big with UPS. Just make absolute sure that you have the weight and measurements correct and absolutely do not buy the shipping label on ebay.

You will need to purchase a second label for the second package.

I would reuse your original label, especially if the package didn't get to a sorting center. You might get lucky and get a cost adjustment refund since the package is smaller and lighter now.

A letter carrier picked up a package from a blue collection box, scanned it, then dropped it. I found it the next day on the curb soaking wet from rain.

The merchandise inside was fine. I put a reprinted label on a new box and dropped it into the blue collection box. It got a second acceptance scan and got delivered within the normal transit time.

Good point... While a refund might be out of the question (if an Acceptance scan was already done), you could reuse the label and hope to get an adjustment credit later on. Buy a new label for the second package and add its tracking number to the sale. (I think you can add up to 5 tracking numbers to one eBay shipment.)
