PSA: EASY way to replace all HTTP Links on all of your listings in one go. 5 minute job.

Hello Everyone,

I thought I'd start a new Discussion to save people stress and time.

I got the dreaded 'All of your listings (148) are non-compliant HTTP and we will show all of your customers your listing is unsafe' blah blah blah.

I got into eBay chat, was somewhat exasperated as the only 2 links I had in my Description was provided by eBay themselves, which to be honest, they should have been able to correct invisibly behind the scenes.

Anyway, the first chat guy said I had to update the listings manually 1 at a time. I was NOT impressed, so I was passed on to a second chat person who showed me how to 'Find and Replace' in the description field in bulk. Below are the instructions I received:

1. Go to https://www.ebay.co.uk/sh/lst/active/http-content?limit=200&offset=0

2.  Click the box in the top-left corner to select all of your listings.

3. Click 'Edit'.

4.  The 'Edit Listings' screen should show up with a long list of all of your listings.

5. Again, click the box at the top-left corner to select all of your listings.

6. Click the 'Edit Fields' button.

7. Select 'Item Description' from the drop-down menu.

8. The 'Edit Item Description' page should open up.

9.  From the drop-down menu, select 'Edit Listings in Bulk - Find and Replace'

10. Two empty text boxes should show up 'Find' at the top, and 'Replace' at the bottom.

11. In the top 'Find' Box, type 'HTTP' (without the quotation marks). In the bottom 'Replace' Box, type 'HTTPS'.

12.  Select 'Save and Close' button.

13. You'll be shunted back out to the 'Edit Listings' screen again, simply select 'Submit Changes' button at the bottom left, and give the listings time to run through.

14. All of your 'http' non-compliant listings should now have been changed to 'https'. I personally checked on 3 listings, and got the eBay support operative to check on a couple as well.

- It will take between 48 and 72 hours (so I am told by eBay support), for eBay to realise that I am now 'compliant', so if you get any more panicky e-mails from eBay saying you need to update, you can ignore them unless one appears after 72 hours, in which case I myself will need to get back onto support and find what is going on.

HOPEFULLY, this will save someone else the initial stress and panic from that e-mail, and despite what some members of support will tell you, there IS a way to quickly sort this out all in one go.

I have asked the 2nd support operative to ask their superiors to let them know these simple steps should be passed to all of the eBay support operatives so no-one contacting support has to talk to a 2nd person for simple instructions.

Hope this helps someone!

Phil

I am very glad if this works for you.

But bulk edit find/replace hasn't worked for us (or *several* other sellers) since (literally) the day eBay mandated all listings comply with the https nonsense.   This non-functionality has been reported repeatedly for several weeks by multiple sellers with no apparent fix in sight.

Again - if this worked for you, yay!  🙂

Hi Melody!

I'm REALLY sorry to hear that! I only just got the e-mail, but like a fool didn't check and have seen all of these 'find and replace not working' posts.

If it hadn't of worked for me I would have been absolutely furious! Especially since the violations were the 'store.ebay' links provided by eBay themselves! Not even external!

Well hopefully this will work for someone and saves them the rigmarole of having to go through support to find out it doesn't work anyway, for a few it might work, for others it might not, but at least they have the instructions without having to repeat their issue 12 times to a member of support staff and get passed to 2 or 3 different people to find out it's not working!

Re: PSA: EASY way to replace all HTTP Links on all of your listings in one go. 5 minute job.

Good summary.

Should help with some of the simpler situations. There are apparently problems with the bulk editor in some circumstances (more complex search and replaces and/or those involving /'s in links?)

There is a slight problem with your search and replace terms. A search for HTTP will find both HTTP and HTTPS (if any are also in the listing), will change the HTTP to HTTPS as intended, but will also change any HTTPS to HTTPSS and will break those links.

Better to search for HTTP: and replace with HTTPS: (the colon on the search term precludes matching any existing HTTPS links.)

@galaxy-boutique There is no need to have to sign in to eBay U.K.

@galaxy-boutique

eBay has the same reporting tool available on the US site.

https://www.ebay.com/sh/lst/active/http-content

eBay's tool will report all listings with http issues and allows the seller to checkmark up to 200 items for repair within eBay's bulk editor. That is probably the simplest solution for sellers who have only a few hundred listings with known images to fix and who are not trying to fix any other issues at the same time.

For thousands of listings, or for more complex repairs, the wildcard capability of the Active Content scan tools here would be more efficient.

@*eponymous*  The eBay links are provided at the bottom of that page.
