PO Box

Buyer has a PO Box Address. I thought this was not allowed. I just sent an item to a PO Box and the Post Office Received it and indicated that it is ready for pickup. Is that good enough for ebay to accept it as delivery complete?

Post office boxes are the safest address you can mail to.

The customer either has to use his key to open the box,if the item will fit, or show ID at the counter if it is too bulky.

Second safest are freight forwarders, because the seller's responsibility for delivery ends at the forwarder.

The reason some older sellers don't allow PO boxes is that early on couriers like UPS could not deliver to post offices. The clerks would not sign for delivery.

Some lazy newer sellers copied those Terms of Sale without asking why.

I can't get the Seller Quarterly benefit because Ebay Supplies won't deliver to a PO BOX and we have no street address.  We have a PO Box.   And while the post office won't deliver to our home, they insist we not use the street address of the post office.  It is a local PO choice/paid service.   My previous PO in Manhattan encouraged us to do that.   There is some complexity with UPS/Fed Ex dropping off packages too - the customer might have to pay another fee.

Historically speaking, on eBay the problem with P.O. boxes once had some basis in fact.  Years ago, eBay did not count "arrived at Post Office"  the same as  "delivered to the buyer".  It was a simple matter  for a less than honorable member to claim INR, and once refunded go to the Post Office and pick it up.   Great way to get things for free (at the seller's expense, of course).   Sort of like the domestic version of the "custom's hanger". 

Post Office box addresses consequently got a bad rep until it was changed and considered "delivered" once it arrived at the facility.  Nothing to fear anymore.

LOL!  I thought that same thing too years ago.  It's funny b/c all I do is have

City, State, Zip

And they really cannot tell if I live there or not unless they decide to google it and realize that it's a post office.

Had to  earlier than Jan 10 2010 that is when I first started selling on eBay and one of my first few  order  went to a PO w/o a hitch.  Never blocked  people with a PO or an APO address.  Only  had one buyer that tried to run a  game on me to get  some free stuff. and he failed when he sent back and empty envelope with and empty box inside but partial sealed flap -  USPS  delivered in a clear  bag with stickers on  - stating light package, not sealed, etc.  Took pics of all this - attached it to  his claim.  Never did a word battle to his claim, just  said  "return  for refund".  eBay  was on  my side - no refund necessary.  The dude that bought it claimed he was with the New Jersey Port Authority.  He didn't know I was raised on the south side of Detroit - that is where I received my basic training. - people like to  try run a game on you there.
