It gives me great joy to know I can list an expensive item on eBay & believe it will sell very quickly but I do not wish to pay 20%+ in total fees nor do I want to wait 3-4 weeks to receive the funds. So, I placed it on 3 other sites. I pay 0 fees on each & no hold on funds. Immediate payment! Whether it sells very fast anywhere else is a wait & see but, still not giving up about $150 Cdn. in fees / taxes. One sold last week on eBay. Too bad I have no motivation to post mine here due to the headaches of selling valuable merchandise on eBay.

Just curious: In what category are the final value fees 20% plus?

@sakic92710 : ...and what are those '3 other sites'?

20% is everything including taxes that are paid. I'm in Canada & they make us pay a Goods & Services tax on every sale. (GST)

I can only mention 2 of those sites on here because eBay owns 1 - Kijiji & the other is Marketplace.

lol, so now your complaining because it would sell on Ebay?
If it's so great, I'd put it at the highest price you anticipate elsewhere + fees at auction...... couldn't hurt to try it.

As I stated, I do not wish to wait 3-4 weeks to get my money when the buyer has already received it.

For many sellers the effective rate is 20% + commission as the 13.5% is a total cost not net sale commission.

I get paid every week. Don't have to wait. Also can request immediate payment

This year should be interesting as the 1099K drops even lower than 2024.
I can't imagine getting 3 1099k's from 3 different sites.
My accountant charges per each form one receives when he does my taxes...and then there's all those deductions you have to add to the 3 selling sites/
I will stick with one platform so I know I will only receive one 1099K next year to have to deal with.
And Marketplace also has to send a 1099K out for those who sold $6000. or more of 2024.

Is there a point to this post?
Many eBay sellers list, and sell, on various venues.
Jack your price up to cover the horrific fees/taxes. Is money so tight that you can't wait a while to get the payment? You would probably have your money, from eBay, quicker than you will even sell it on those other sites.

Are you posting this on the other wonderful sites forums? Seems no value to post here, if not just for attention.
Why not just move on?

Waaaaait a minute 🤔
What you are describing doesn't sound like an ebay joy at all. It kinda almost sounds like the opposite of joy. I know this because my cousin is a detective and I have my suspicions. I'm onto you.

Maybe that's standard, but if sounds like a rip. They charge extra for having to type in a couple of extra numbers? The tax software does a lot of the work, especially if you have all of your records in order. Different story if you're just dumping a shoebox full of receipts on the accountant's desk ...

When you sell something expensive for several $100, they hold it until they feel comfortable that the buyer does not have an issue with the purchase. The hold could be for a month.
