On the podcast this morn, Griff (?) said that when ebay has its payment system, immediate payment will work on offers..........

It would be immediate because they would consider it buyer initiated when the offer was made. The buyer knows what the amount will be and can explicitly approve the payment pending acceptance.

Once the seller accepts they will take the money from whatever payment method the buyer has on file.

How will that work if the seller has multiple shipping options in the listing? Do I choose which shipping option I want when I make my offer?

Have you had to use the new beginner level listing tool? There is one shipping option. I would not at all be surprised if eBay made one shipping option the norm soon. Most of my buyers just pay the first one.

Nope. Haven't used any of the eBay listing tools other than Turbo Lister. I can't list with eBay's online forms because it spins too much and saves too much for my slow DSL connection. When I buy I like having a choice of one fast shipping method and one slow shipping method because if I'm not in a hurry for something then I'd choose the slow one. I wish I could offer more than one on my magazines but nothing is appropriate.

How slow? I get along just fine on a 3mbps connection even when it is being hammered at 100% with file downloads, 3 machines, and a couple of devices using the pipe.

I suspect using another browser for listing is might be a solution.

Re: Offers and Immediate payment.

My download is supposed to be 3 but I really don't get that much of the time. And my upload speed is almost nothing. The phone lines Centurylink uses in the rural area here are in really bad shape and they don't want to spend the money to upgrade the lines.

Interesting!  However, I'm not to sure on how they intend to perform it.  Of course, I suppose that they would need to have some sort of access to the buyer's funding source so that once the seller accepts the offer the money could be withdrawn from it.  I'm not sure that I would feel comfortable with an arrangement like that.

I suppose that something similar would work with auctions as well.  Still, I'm not quite sure how many bidders/buyers would find such an arrangement acceptable.  With eBay's history of glitches I would think twice.

When a buyer makes an offer and the seller accepts the offer does that end the listing with our current method? I've never done one to completion as a buyer or a seller.

If the listing currently ends when the offer is accepted maybe the listing will just go on as usual until the buyer pays and would be available to "steal" if someone came along and bought it at the fixed price. Or are we looking at major changes for buyers once the managed payment is in place for all sellers where buyers will need to put a CC on file? Scary thought as a buyer!

The way I understand things to work now, the listing ends when the seller accepts it.  The buyer is then committed to pay for the item.  If they fail to do so, the seller has the right to attempt to collect the debt owed him by the buyer.

In the case of an auction, it ends when the item is declared sold in the usual manner.  In this case when the time runs out on the bidding period and eBay's system declares the winner.  Here too, the seller has the right to use all legal means to collect the debt owed him if the buyer fails to pay.

In the case of the auction, the auction ends at the precise time it is scheduled to end.  However, in the case of the offer it ends when the seller accepts the offer and until then the listing remains live and anyone can buy the item simply by using the Buy Now button.  So yes, someone could buy it out from under the one making an offer up until the seller accepts the offer.  If the listing times out before the offer is accepted the offer becomes void.

With IPR payment is required before completing the transaction and ending the listing.  In this case, it is the buyer that has control of the precise time the sale is made.

It would make the most sense for it to be that the auction keeps going until someone pays.

Actually, eBay auctions have a finite bidding period and end at the precise time that period ends

That’s great. Other sites keep your payment info and when you make an offer and it’s accepted, payment comes out right away.

I'm not familiar with any of those sites but would trust them with access to my money  I would definitively not trust eBay with it
