Recently a book I had listed was removed from an update to the "Offensive Material Policy". The listing was of a little cookbook from Aunt Jemima. The message from eBay said
I don't understand because, if anything, this cookbook glorifies the African American culture instead of discriminating it. Is there anything I can do to resolve this situation for a falsely removed listing? Or is there something I'm not picking up that apparently is against their policy?

eBay can remove anything it wants,
Aunt Jemima is now considered offensive.
Do not relist it.

I take it you're white, right? Ask your African American friends and neighbors how they feel about Aunt Jemima, Uncle Ben, Little Black Sambo, et al. See if they think those caricatures of black people glorify their race or discriminate against it.
If you think it glorifies African American culture, perhaps you could donate it to a local museum or college/university in the area that might have an appropriate department that collects racially offensive artifacts. Maybe there's one over in Ferguson that would be pleased to take it off your hands.

Aunt Jemima was a slave.

It's only a matter of time before books like Tom Sawyer will have to go too.

For what it's worth... I have a copy (some are selling here) of a cookbook entitled "White Trash Cooking".
Wiki's first sentence... "White trash is a racist and classist slur used in American English to refer to poor white people, especially in the rural southern United States."
^^^ I won't list that, either... just in case. Who knows how broad the 'Offensive Material' policy is?

I think the Offensive Material Policy is in response to the on-going struggle for an entire race trying to gain some respect, dignity and equal treatment in an America where they were literally enslaved without their consent to help make this country.
To make light of the position of African Americans by comparing Aunt Jemima, et al to a tongue-in-cheek "White Trash" cookbook--written by the people who also dreamed up the title--is to not only miss the point of the movement, but also to disrespect every black American who asks to be treated with more compassion than to have white people slap a caricature of them on a box of pancake mix or rice.
I defer to my signature line.

Alright, alright, I didn't do any research. I assumed the wrong. My mistake.

Mine was a gift. I'm still scratching my head at why I received it. LOL

Ebay is a technology company and the technology is very dumb.
I sell old postcards and everytime I list Indian River or Indian Embassy I get ridiculous warnings.
I was born here, my parents were born here, their parents were born here. I'm as native american as anyone.
It is interesting that White Trash cookbook is permitted. There are 319 listings today.
