Did you mean:

Now it's getting beyond stupid.

I went to contact one of my customers who had made a major purchase a couple of weeks ago. I put in a small gift with the items and she left glowing feedback for me.

I just wanted to say thanks again and tell her a little bit about the gift I sent her. I used one of her old emails to reply to. Well what do you think happened. Of course,  it would not allow me to send the message, so I had to respond to her through the purchase record. Good grief!!!!!!! Don't they want sales??? Communication is how to get them. I'm fed up.

You are attempting to communicate about an invalid item.

In the "old days", when ebay was youngish (and so was I), I enjoyed the ability to correspond with my buyers and sellers; some of those whom I met on ebay, I now consider friends. That ability made the ebay experience warm and personal; now, it is cold and impersonal and certainly devoid of charm. We are people. We are not machines. During those early years, never did I bypass ebay when selling; the company always got its share. I have a humanistic approach to life and, like most people, I avoid situations in which entities are dictatorial. That is why I will leave ebay when my obligation to it is satisfied. And sometimes I really do wonder if Devin Wenig is just another "bot".

I agree when eBay was young it was different. It was more personal. I have never done an outside sale, ever. But I have had my share of people who see I am close and want a local pick up to see what else I had, people who asked for my address to come over, people who hinted to outside sales and a few other unscrupulous things I can't remember.

I have worked for small companies that had a lot of flexibility. The big companies I worked for had set rules. Late 3 times, fired. When your sick time is up, good bye. No call no show, bye. It just has to be that way when it gets big.

If you work for one of those companies when they are small and get big you actually have rules named after you. Like the Siayan no white text rule.

Or they hang the "keeper of the ancient lore" necklace around your neck and come ask questions about old policies or procedures that you have no idea why they were ever implemented.

On Ebay you no longer have your own photos, or customers.

They are handing them over to their chinese buddies

On  my old id in the old days (I am holding the necklace as I speak) I put the word nazi in white text in some of my descriptions. I would get 10X more views then normal. No more sales but lots of views.

I don't understand this. You send a email? and eBay intercepted it? If it was an old sale that was invalid and it was a eBay  message and went "did you like the gift"  I would worry the bots could pick that up as outside eBay sale.

^^^  I think the OP must have used the terms "email" and "eBay message" as if they were interchangeable.

Depends on how you look at it. You can reply to an ebay message that came thru your own email using your own email client but that reply will still go thru ebay messages.

Did you do know that offering suggestions that are considered ebay workarounds ebay considers a violation?

Re: Now it's getting beyond stupid.

I have also had a few of these when a customer has messaged me about an item that they wanted to buy but the listing ended. After I responded that I would relist  for them, I got the red flag. I called into Ebay right away and the person I spoke too was rather nonchalant about it. I stressed to her that I DO NOT WANT THESE GOING ON MY IMMACULATE RECORD. She said, I will make a note of it. Call them if these things happen untill they can tweek this thing to stop flagging some of the best sellers here.

Once a buyer has made a purchase from us, paid, and received their merchandise.. occasionally even leaving their positive feedback... that payment information given to us on our PayPal account is OURS.

I know that eBay would like to prevent any selling member from EVER being able to transact any business, anywhere, with anyone other than through eBay, but they are about as close to enslavement as they can likely get.. and still get away with it.  Smiley Very Happy

Whatever site I make sales on with payment through PayPal, the recorded and reported email addresses are MINE... to do with as I will.

Why did you feel the need to tell her about the item weeks after the fact?

Re: Now it's getting beyond stupid.

Just depends right now ebays putting lack of sales on sellers backs claiming the slump must be from sellers taking sales off site. I'd suspect right after Christmas they'll begin netting. I guess the DSR purge of 011 happened to long ago for folks to remember, but the same mass has been reached again....

Re: Now it's getting beyond stupid.

Yes that's true, but what I think is happening is that people were getting these dangerous give me your Pay Pal account info so I can NOT pay you, and Ebay got very strict about these types of messages. I think the problem is the bots cannot distinquish the real off Ebay communications vs the innocent trying to answer a simple question ones and all of it is getting lumped into the red flag warnings. They seem to get triggered by certain key words they have programmed into the system and sometimes these are legitimate NON off Ebay replies or questions. I am for the moment scared to death to open some of my emails on the system because of this.
