Now What? This One Is Blowing My Mind

Quick backstory that will probably turn out to be long.

Buyer haggled for days for an item promising to pay immediately. I finally sold it to her. She took 9 DAYS to pay. She kept sending me messages saying she would pay the next day, she promised. I had no problem waiting I just wanted payment by May 31 because I was leaving for vacation and I told her that.

As I predicted, she waited to pay on the day after I left. I actually had to bring the item with me along with packing materials because I knew this would happen.

Anyway, not long after she paid, she started blowing up my mailbox up asking for a refund. A lot of the messages were copy and paste of the one before.

She asked for a refund so I cancelled the order. I thought that was what she meant until she started sending more messages this morning. Apparently she wanted me to go ahead and ship the item AFTER refunding and she would work payment out with ebay after she received the items.

The non-duplicated messages are below.

I don't know if she is a scammer or just naïve. Surely she seriously doesn't believe she can get people to send her items before she pays, although that is what she said.

Her Messages:

#1 Hello. Can u pls refund pymt for this item. My entire order was supposed to be charged to my Pay Pal Credit, but Ebay charged it to the wrong form of payment. Pls confirm receipt/reply asap. TU!!

#2 Hello. I'm not sure if I contacted u already, but I am requesting that u refund pymt of this item. My entire order was supposed to be charged to Pay Pal Credit, but Ebay charged it to the wrong form of pymt. Pls confirm receipt/reply asap. TU!!

#3 Pls do not cancel the order for this item. U are already paid, the problem is Ebay used the wrong form of pymt for my order, which I will deal with once all items have been received. Again, pls do not cancel this order. Pls confirm receipt/purchase asap. TU!!

#4 No, pls do not cancel order. I will deal with Ebay when all my items arrive. TU!!

AFTER I cancelled her order and told her I had to in order to refund, she is now blowing up my mailbox again with these messages:

#5 Can u pls send me a link to repurchase at the same price?? I m sorry, but Ebay screwed my entire order up. Pls reply/send link. TU!!

#6 Hello Again. I would really like to re-purchase the 1oz Algenist Anti Wrinkle Cream that was cancelled from my order due to an error in form of payment by Ebay, and which is why I requested cancellation in the first place, as that was what Ebay told me to do ... which was also a mistake.
Therefore, can u pls send me an invoice for $26.74, which is what I paid originally.
Pls confirm receipt/resale asap. TU!!

#7 Once again ... Pls Do Not Cancel Order. If u have already, pls send me an Invoice for $26.34 to Repurchase Item. TU!@

What now? The only thing I can do is relist the item as we can't send invoices because we are not allowed to have their email to send invoices.

To be honest, I would rather not sell to this person. She strung me along for 9 days and I stressed to her that I needed payment by 5/31 because I was leaving town and needed to ship before I left.

I have now told her 3 times that I am on vacation and it's like she doesn't hear me. I have already told her I would be relisting the item next week and she is still sending me emails.

I just don't want to go through this again. Her excuses for not paying on time was because she was out of town and then it was because she had a big order to charge to her Paypal. and then empty promises that she would be paying the next day and the next and the next.

I guess what I am asking is if I should just block her? If I do and she leaves negative feedback for the cancelled item because of the block, would ebay remove it?

I wish that ebay would remove the feedback option for cancelled orders. It's not fair for them to leave it when no sale took place.  Especially when they buyer asks them to. But I am assuming that would be too much to ask of ebay

Probably. The problem is some sellers don't list accurately or don't keep good inventory. The buyer pays. Then the seller cancels. This annoys buyers into not coming back to eBay since it seems like they can't trust the ad in front of their eyes.

Anyway, you have a lot of proof the problem is on the buyer's side, not yours. If she wants to pay some other way, she'll have to talk to eBay website development re payment options.

I think the key to this whole muddleheaded saga might be that excerpt above. She says, "You are already paid," which you are (I assume), but she expects that somehow eBay will magically change her source of funding, which I think is where this all started. Evidently she wanted to pay from her credit card, but PayPal took it from either her PayPal balance or her bank balance instead, something like that. It doesn't help that she makes mention of talking to Customer Service as well, and Gawd knows what they must told her to get her off the phone.

If you did refund her, she now wants to repay and somehow (presumably) get her funding source correct this time. If you do decide to let her try again, relist as a BuyItNow with no Make Offer, so that you can add the Immediate Payment Required option to the listing. (I believe that now you've cancelled the original listing, she can't re-pay you for that one anyway. I had a similar situation myself recently, where the buyer told me he was getting a "Listing Expired" error, so I did a BIN for him instead.)

She was refunded when I cancelled the order. None of this makes sense to me. The buyer chooses the funding source, not ebay, at least that has been my experience.

A few hours have passed and no new emails from her. I hate to think of what will be waiting for me in the morning.  She is extremely persistent as you saw by her emails.

I am leaning towards not relisting it on that account at all. I don't want to give her or her friends any opportunity to buy from me again.

I bent over backwards for this person and now I feel harassed by her.

Blocked she is!

When a buyer chooses to use PayPal Credit and they're denied, ebay/PP takes the payment from their funding source. I've seen this reported in posts before.

I agree it would make more sense to just DENY the whole transaction and tell them they need to use another funding source, but they don't apparently.

Reality is the leading cause of stress.

Block buyer.

Stop responding to her.

Relist when you get back with immediate payment on the listing.

Enjoy your vacation!

Yes, although I think PayPal's options have varied a bit over the recent past; I seem to remember one period where you couldn't use your credit card if you had a PayPal balance, for instance, although that's not true anymore.

While you can choose the funding source when making your payment, it's not always obvious that you have the option, and (I think) it's also possible to set up a default payment source so that you're not even given the option of selecting a different source during checkout. The mobile platform I suspect makes it even less intuitive.

I'm not arguing in favor of continuing on indefinitely with this buyer, who doesn't seem to comprehend a whole lot about the payment process, and seems unlikely to get much better at it. I'm just saying that I think I can see how this all came about, and if you have successfully gotten yourself out of the first failed purchase, maybe you can avoid her long enough for her to find the same product from a different seller. Good luck.

Why shouldn't buyers be allowed to have an opinion on cancelled transactions that resulted from the seller's end? If you purchase something and are refunded, that doesn't negate that a transaction took place. If a person feels the transaction was unsatisfactory feedback should be able to be left. It will also serve to show that a seller has a history of cancelling and refunding if they do it regularly.

The only reason she wouldn't be sure is because she's doing this to more than one seller and has lost track. .

BINGO!

Yes, it can be as others have posted. It has happened to me, thank God not on eBay. If I buy too much in a short time, my bank won't let go of my money even though there's no fraud involved. I think the banks use our money in one way or another and won't just let a lot of it go at one time. Ive many times had to call up my bank to release my money that I know I have, yet it takes a day or so for them to release more even when I have PLENTY of money in my account.

Ignore any further messages.

If she does happen to neg, you should be able to get it removed since she's asking for you to send without payment.

Why shouldn't a seller be allowed to have an opinion on a buyer who strung them along for 9 days and then continued to send crazy messages?  No, seriously!!!

I'm not a "sellers need to be able to leave buyers negatives" sort of person, but this buyer shouldn't be allowed to purchase let alone leave their opinion on the transaction.  Normally I would say that a buyer should be able to leave FB on seller cancelled transactions, but that isn't what this is.  Just curious... if a buyer purchases something and then immediately finds it cheaper and asks to cancel so they can purchase the cheaper item... after wasting the seller's time, do you really think it would be appropriate for the seller to receive a neutral or negative because the buyer didn't do their due diligence in shopping around?  How long before the only sellers left on eBay are ones who really just don't care?

This has NOT been my experience with Paypal Credit at all. If a purchase gets denied, the sale just doesn't happen until I go back through checkout, choose another funding source and try again. I've used it for a few years now, and have NEVER had any alternative funding source charged without my direct permission.

I've had purchases denied and called Paypal to ask why, because there was plenty of my credit limit available, and the denials both confused and annoyed me. I was told that either the item or the seller represented too much risk for them to approve the deal.

Paypal Credit has been sold to Synchrony Bank, so Paypal proper will no longer be able to answer questions and I'll have to deal directly with the bank.

Déjà Moo: The strange feeling that I've heard this bull before...

Call Ebay, explain, ask them the right (their) way to get rid of her. She will really kill you on feedback, otherwise.

Why couldn't she just ask ebay to change her payment?  Ebay owns pay pal so I should think they could work together.  I would also ask ebay what the heck did they tell her?

My guess is she couldn't pay before because she had no credit. Maybe she didn't pay her bill?

I did have a problem ( as a seller ) for some reason paypal wasn't taking shipping out of the money paid. I didn't realize until I saw my credit card bill.  I called them and they said they had to verify my information. I have been a member for 8 years..they said this is the new policy(not unlike the rest of their new policies). I went over the info and then they went back to taking the shipping out of the money paid.
