Not getting any views

Why are most of my items not getting any views? Anyone have any suggestions?

EBay does not know your cost to acquire your goods or how much you need to price an item at to turn a profit. In other words, eBay’s suggestions are just that—suggestions. One may completely disregard them. You know best what your needs and costs are.

A little lighter fluid or Goo Gone will help clean up (remove) those rental stickers and price tags. They are a sale killer when there are already so many clean ones out there. Still list as prior rental of course. Also check media mail, the price has gone way up but I believe it's still a tad less. Raise your prices to cover all fees. Good luck~

Re: Not getting any views

Not every thing at a garage sale or at Goodwill gets viewed either.  Some people  love to "window shop" at the mall and on line too or the old and former Sears & Roebuck "Wishbook" to see if something trips their trigger or just wish they had stuff.  Personally only buy stuff I need at the store or on line.

IMO the number of views and watchers a listing receives is of little value.  Walmart  has  tons of footwear - I guarantee you I will never look at and/or buy any of them - just do the walk on by every time  I go into  Walmart.

@l071081

"the goodwill near me doesn’t sell DVDs for that cheap."

Yes, but is anyone actually buying them?  The Goodwill near me prices non-clothing items with ridiculous high prices on them and it appears most of them just sit there.

"And I’m literally selling most of them at the suggested price."

WHOSE suggested prices?  For USED items, people can "suggest" a price all day long and the items will never sell for that.  YOU have to determine how well an item is selling and how to price it competitively.

"Im selling them for what ebay said to sell them as."

About 15-20 years ago, people could list things at auction starting at 99c and there would almost always be bids.  But there were nowhere near the number of items listed that there are now.  Now, there are 1.7 Billion items listed on eBay on any given day.   Things get lost in search.  Competition is extremely high.  People want to buy what they want right now, not a week from now.   eBay has always suggested for new sellers to start auctions at 99c and they have never changed that suggestion even though it's outdated and no longer a good suggestion.

Re: Not getting any views

Are you sure it always suggests for it to start at 99 cents? Could’ve sworn sometimes it suggests a higher number? Maybe I’m losing it.

and yes I buy DVDs from goodwill. Maybe I’m unusual.

Re: Not getting any views

If buying common videos (and music) for they're own viewing then buyers want to have and own them and re-watch for cheap. That's what buyers are looking for. They could browse thrift stores too, so it has to be cheap. That's where high shipping kills it for sellers.

Rare or special releases are different, but good luck finding those in thrift stores unless you are a specialist.

I made a living on the $5 DVD thing a few years back, but most of us stream it all now. It's not the first time I switches selling categories. Things go obsolete as it happens. I wish you luck~

I don't know; I didn't go back and check so that current 99c could be incorrect.  However, it's still a fact that auctions do not work for common items.

You came on here asking why you aren't getting any views and a lot of people have been giving you good advice on listing and selling which could help result in more views.  But you seem to be a little argumentative and think you are listing things correctly because eBay said so.

No matter what you decide to do, I only wish you the best in your future endeavors.

wasn’t meaning to be argumentative but did feel a bit defensive honestly regarding some replies.

Re: Not getting any views

You have 543 feedbacks, so you're doing something right.  But you can't always just keep on doing what you have always done.   Markets change, and the way people buy things change, and what they buy changes, too.

Not that many people can even view DVDs now.  Your audience for those is greatly diminished.  New computers don't come with drives for them, and streaming or cable or satellite services have really taken over from the days when running out to the video store was the thing to do.

You're not the only one not getting a lot of views.  I suppose it depends on whether you're trying to pay rent, or use this platform as your sole support, or just trying to clear out your closets.  I'm not interested in paying for an eBay store, or paying for higher search placement or off-site ads.  I feel like I'm already paying eBay enough in fees the way it is.  But that's me.  It obviously isn't everybody.  It may not be you, either.  I'm just trying to declutter my house, not feed children or pay for swim lessons.

You do you.  Take the suggestions here, or don't.  Nobody here has the time to go back and check to see if you took their advice or not.

I do hope I get some views, but really all it takes is ONE view.  I more wish I had some sales.  But things tend to go in spurts, for me.  I'll get a bunch, and then have a drought.  I post more listings as I can, and hope somebody wants what I no longer have a need for.

Re: Not getting any views

It is entirely possible to have no views for days, weeks, or even months if you are listing items that nobody is searching for. If you want instant views on your listings, you must focus on high sell through items.
