There should be some negative feedback when a customer does not pay. Right now the worse you can do is leave a message on their feedback page. you should be able to show negative feedback just like the seller has.

Yes, that is the worst thing you can do. It's a violation of eBay feedback policy. It puts off legitimate buyers who figure the seller either doesn't know know the rules or thinks he's above rules. It does nothing to discourage non-payers. It does nothing to help other sellers avoid non-payers.
Instead, cancel with non-payment as the reason. That is the best thing you can do, for yourself and for other sellers who can then use eBay preferences to block NPBs.

You have some experience or proof of this? I don't see that verbiage myself in ebay's rules. Maybe I've missed this. I can't imagine ebay removed the negative button for sellers but are fine with polite negative comments.

As this topic is about leaving negative feedback for buyer's, and the correct way to deal with non payers - your 5 replies are misleading and wrong on so many levels.

Regarding FB, eBay's rules are different for buyers and sellers.
Yes, a buyer can leave negative FB for a seller.
No, a seller cannot leave negative remarks for a buyer.

Have you read the policy.
A seller can not leave a negative comment, no matter how respectful it is in buyers feedback.

Honest feedback is not negative. I've definitely left honest feedback, and will continue to do so.
It just so happens to be that I haven't had a negative buyer/seller transaction.

You are correct that it is not a "defect" as defined by eBay. However, it IS a policy violation, you can have a few of those from time to time but multiple policy violations can result in sanctions ranging from a notice to smarten up to a temporary or permanent suspension.
If you expect buyers to follow eBay policies you better be following them yourself.
Of course leaving false positives by a seller only makes the seller look bad and does absolutely nothing to the buyer.

You know, I cannot one recall one instance of someone coming to these boards staing, "I want to leave honest feedback for my buyers." Nope. Never. Just like this OP, they all want to leave negative feedback. In fact, they don't merely want to neg buyers but are slavering to so do.

You are closely skirting a policy violation by insisting that a seller’s negative feedback under a positive rating for a buyer is ok. It is not.

To continue to argue the point, despite having the facts pointed out to you by multiple sellers, and despite seeing the written policy for yourself, spreads misinformation to the community.

It's not 96 hours. It's 96 hours and then until the start of the next day. I learned this the hard way. I had an auction end the afternoon before the day I was to leave the country on an extended trip. I timed this exactly so if the buyer didn't pay I could cancel.
But then eBay didn't let me cancel until the start of the next day!
eBay misreprents the policy. It's 4 PLUS days -- not 4 days.

Why do you want to make someone pay? If you really forced them to pay, don't you think they will come up with some reason to return the item - then you will be out postage and what not depending on if and what they return. If I have a buyer that doesn't pay that is fine with me. After 4 days they are blocked and they get a nonpaying hit on their records. I don't send messages, I don't send invoices. They get a non-paying hit and that's that.
