20 years folks. Im surprised I have a hair left in my head or a spoon that hasnt been used to gouge out my own eyeballs.

 

Very simple. Just wanted to downgrade my store subscription from premium to basic as im no longer listing even 200 listings instead of the 1000 the premium store gets free. Well all options to downgrade, upgrade, cancel or otherwise were grayed out due to an error on the page saying "Invalid payment method". Well my credit card is in perfect standing and has been since Ive owned it. I called my bank to confirm. The first customer service agent suggested for me to reenter my same card and I got the good ole "Double check your card number" error." The second customer service agent pulled my time tested ebay favorite answer by manually removing my card and then telling me to reenter it now..........to which I got the exact same error. When she immediately seemed confused she decided to try the "well i will personally call you back in 24 hours to make sure we get it fixed, the system just needs time." Its a good thing I knew this well trained lie upfront for holding my breath would have been catastrophic. Of course she never called. Imagine my surprise.....yawn.....next. So 30 hours later I tried a 3rd time. This young lady helped tremendously by saying she called her technical team and they would.........................suspenseful pause.........................call me back in 24 hours. Now 3 days later the 4th rep just told me my card was declined as far back as 3 days ago.................even though Im using to make purchases daily at the store etc and even though my bank says my accounts are all in perfect standing and working order. Still on hold while he "tries something else". Betting countless dollars here that they will offer to call me back tomorrow.

 

Im on my last leg here folks. I went from just wanting to lower my store subscription to now I have no payment source instead of the one that was working just fine. Im sure ebay will not care that it was their fault when they attempt to collect my fees and sub with no payment source. I do not keep money in paypal already because I have lost trust in ebay.

 

Anyone have a work around for this or a fix to this several year old "glitch"?

Have you done any chargebacks on this card?

You obviously have other cards..........why not just put one of those on.......  I would guess later you could add the old one and then choose it as the primary

 

I understand the anger and aggravation........and you have to decide what amount of time/emotion you want to spend on the whole situation......  There are fights I would like to make sometimes, but just not worth the trouble.......

On the first (I think first) call OP made to CS, that CS person canceled/deleted his card.  Thus making it invalid.

 

Any further attempts to add it will not succeed because it is an invalid, i.e., bad credit card.

 

There must be some coding the CS person used, or had to use, to create this situation and, once done, cannot be undone.

Is your monthly bill paid? Is your monthly bill due on the first or 15th? Maybe there is a glitch with the billing cycle. 

 

I don't understand the I don't want t pay by PayPal part.

Could you imagine what it might be like trying to get your money back if they decided to over charge. Its not like they have overcharged me a couple dozen times over 20 years already.

I guess my question is is this a prepaid credit card?

When you tried the work around, did you clear your cookies first?  Not sure if that would affect anything or not, but may be worth a try.

Of course not. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my card or else other more important platforms and wholesale accounts would be having issues as well.

Fabulous post and this is where I am perfectly. I do have 1 other card. Its for personal expenses only. My wife is a cpa and I cross every T and dot every I so I dont not want to mix business expenses with personal ones and have to explain to a future IRS auditor why I randomly applied ebay expenses to my personal card. It sounds petty..........but in the grand scheme of things something this simple can throw up a red flag for an auditor to look for something not there.

As for the emotion, frustration amount willing to take? That is exactly what has long been swaying me to a divorce after 20 years with ebay. Its one thing after another. I try to remember how fun and cool selling another item is when im ready to jump ship. And then when I think about sticking it out I remember how the fees have increased, the shipping is silly expensive, my top rated discounts are gone, people are returning items 28 days after getting free rental and ebay tells me I have to pay for the return shipping. And then you get Ebay customer service who makes every single problem worse and its always always always........just like you suggested as well..........put back on me to jump through another hoop.

So not quite but close. First call was because I could not change my store subscription due to a "invalid payment method" error. First cs only told me to re enter my card info. Its when I attempted to re enter that I got the double check card number error. It was the 2nd CS who took the liberty of manually removing my card. My card was working perfectly before all of this and ebay was charging me correctly my subscription and final value fee costs for years. Now not only can I not change my store subscription......but I can not list more items, change my store subscription, or even cancel my store subscription.

I pay my monthly bills on the exact same day every month in full. Have never paid a penny of interest to my credit card. I have an 836 beacon score. I also have receipts to donuts I have purchased 20 years ago filed away. I am 100% certain that it is not a card issue, payment issue, credit issue, or something I have caused. This is 100% an ebay issue and all the promised calls are now well past the promised delivery. Including Trintons getting back to me on the boards.

As for the dont want to link paypal to ebay to take automatic payments. Here is your explanation. Over the course of 20 years ebay has incorrectly billed my credit card at least a dozen times. Recently Etsy stole millions of dollars from their sellers and called it a glitch when they over charged for fees and took money right out of peoples bank accounts. Ebay is obviously having problems and if Ebay pulls an Etsy those of you with paypal and bank accounts that ebay has access to may very well be calling the same customer service people who cant help me in order to get your money back. I on the other hand will be having no problems. The other reason is because ebay offers no seller protection what so ever but my credit card company does.

Ydts I dont use chrome. I downloaded it fresh so had no cookies to delete from that browser. Its not a browser issue. Its pretty obvious ebays system does not like my card even though they have had zero problem charging my card for years and even though nobody else is having problems with my card even today. Used it for gas on a supply trip.

My guess, and I know its conspiracy theory junk..........is that they are trying to push people into paypal and checking account auto payments so that they have access to instant money if needed and they dont have to pay the credit card companies usage fees.

Right right considered this. More risk than reward. First even if this works and it should.......I will wont be able to list any more items with no payment source on file once I remove paypal........and second......what if Im unable to remove paypal or there is some penalty for doing so?
