It seems it' s no longer possible to open cases for unpaid items, the links are gone in both seller hub and on the individual items. This is just the next glitch in ebay...
Just to list them up again:
very difficult to access the list of items awaiting payment
not possible to make invoices if a buyer has more than 40 items
invoicing became a nightmare with the new system
can't use firefox any longer
many buyers can't make payment
ebay is so slow, it's ridiculous
We have between 5 and 6000 listings per week, small changes have huge effects on us. I can complain about ebay for small things but I have never known ebay to be so disfunctional as now, it is really sickening and if this continous I will have to hire an additional worker just to be able to cope with the glitches of their system. However, they had no problem charging me over 7000$ in fees this month, that seems to be about the only thing working at the moment.

The WORST anti-seller ebay has yet to come up with....they charge your account BEFORE you have funds, then you gotta wait many days before you can file the Cancel Order, then WAIT again to get your fees back. Totally skewed against the Sellers who actually make ebay possible. HOW ABOUT fining the lousy looky-loo buyers for a change???

How is it "anti-seller"? Unless you have set your terms to manually override it, eBay gives the buyer 4 days to pay, cancels on the 5th day, refunds the seller's FVF and gives the buyer a strike. And it happens pretty quickly. How fast were you getting your fees refunded by the former method? And, again, you are not required to do it this way.

Well I have a very good memory. Several came complaining they could still buy but they no longer have buyer protection because they filed too many claims, and others were banned from bidding and couldn't even use buy now immediate payment required because of unpaid item strikes-strikes received because they were not able to pay because the seller refused to send an invoice with shipping. They were buying from sellers who didn't ship to their country. I've explained many times in the Answer Center if there's no shipping showing specifically to your country don't bid. Many posts from unhappy buyers that it happened to.

You hit the nail on the head. Buyers feel they can get away without paying. I have one now that demanded free shipping when the listing clearly lists shipping fees, and then said he won't pay because I won't give him free shipping. How do I block people with unpaid item strikes?

@stamptomlsaman wrote:I just discovered this myself (eBay doing away with Unpaid Case process) when eBay automatically cancelled an order (auction win) for a customer who was bidding on other items and wanted to combine shipping, which I allow within 7 days. I don't even recall eBay sending out a notice to Sellers that they were eliminating Unpaid Case. I loved Unpaid Case!!! Almost all of my late paying customers would pay when they were told an Unpaid Case might be opened against their account. I have kept good repeat customers that way. Now I understand eBay automatically issues a cancellation if an order is not paid within 4 days?!? My buyers think they have 7 days to bid on other auctions and combine shipping. If eBay cancels an order after 4 days and my customer still wants it, can I still sell it to them? Or does my posting go away completely, and I need to retake pictures, and do a completely new post? This is a huge impact to me and several of my friends who sell daily on ebay using the auction process.
As others have mentioned ebay does send out a message to the buyer telling them that the item may be cancelled if they do not pay by the 5th day...not those exact words of course. If they cancelled the sale automatically then check your settings to turn off the automatic cancellation settings. It's called 'preferences for items awaiting payment' and is on the following page.
https://www.ebay.com/uas/selling-pref
If a buyer wants to buy the item after it has been cancelled, you can just relist the item...the listing doesn't disappear just because it wasn't paid for.

you have no feedback yet are already defending Ebay. Very Odd. A plant?

You can block buyers with strikes on the following page. The strictest setting are 2 strikes within 12 months.

Not odd at all. Many people here using posting ID's.

there is such a thing as privacy laws

I agree! The fees seem to be going up for sellers but there is less protection and support. I've had several buyers not pay for items with no communication over the last several months, many of which clearly use eBay often. How can I not leave a negative review for a buyer? There seems to be no effort from eBay to reduce this from happening. But sellers can't "disappoint" buyers - we're charged for selling, pulling down listings, shipping delays out of our control. Every time I sell there is another issue. After this month, I'm pulling all of my sales from eBay. Such a shame because it started off so great!

>How do I block people with unpaid item strikes?
Go here,
https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/buyerrequirements
and set "Block buyers who caused" to 2 and "cancellations of unpaid purchases within" to 12 so the strikes will have best effect for you. Don't forget to add the deadbeat to your BBL on this page.
You can go here,
https://www.ebay.com/bmgt/blockedbuyeractivities
to see how many times the system blocked deadbeats from buying your items.
HTH.

I agree 100%. In my experience many people pay once they see a case was opened. Now I must simply cancel the order, there is no longer any hope of that item getting paid for. This is one of many examples of how Ebay is making important decisions without considering the impact to sellers. They are trying so hard to be just like Amazon except they forget 1 important thing. That all of their sales are based on the sellers. Amazon doesn't work that way and is notoriously horrible to sellers. It won't impact Amazon's business as much as this treatment of sellers will hurt Ebay. I am desperate now to leave the ebay system and take my 125,000 dollar per year business elsewhere.

I read the announcement but disagree this makes it easier. Buyers very often pay once they see a case was opened. Now that option is gone. I will loose thousands in sales over this.

This will hurt my sales! Many buyers will actually pay once they see a case is opened. For me this amounts to hundreds or possibly thousands of dollars per year. Now I only can cancel. If Ebay wants to make it "easier" they would open the CASE for us automatically. This is one of many moves Ebay makes without considering the impact to sellers. Another move in the wrong direction. If Ebay would stop trying so desperately to be like Amazon and would just be Ebay it would be better for us all.

I have had great success in prodding late payers with an invoice on day 3, pointing out that their purchase is all packed and ready to ship as soon as they pay. I suspect that some buyers just lose track of time and forget to pay unless prodded, and your experience with unpaid item claims supports this.
Or maybe it's time for you to implement "Immediate payment required."
