Is it ok to request good feedback from buyers that you have left good feedback to. Most buyers (I assume they are quite satisfied they keep the item I sold them) but they don't leave any feedback. So can you request it from them?

Thanks to you and all the Ebayers who replied to my question re: feedback. I will take the consensus advice and "leave sleeping dogs lie" and not "poke the bear". I will not request feedback, "no news can be good news" Sorry for all my annoying quotes, haha, Thanks again for all your good advice.

Of course you can. Just be prepared that if a buyer did not leave positive feedback they may not have been 100% happy with the transaction. Not saying you did anything wrong, just some folks are hard to please. You can always send a message to the effect of “Hello Buyer, I see your item was delivered. I hope your buying experience was a pleasant one. If you are happy with your purchase, I would appreciate positive feedback. If you are not, please message me so I can make it right”. Professional, non offensive and you can solve any issue the buyer may have had.

Considering the high "return rate" you're getting on feedback, why would you do that? Some buyers will consider even one email to be harassment, no matter how polite you are. 234 received vs. 270 given is a ratio that most sellers would be ecstatic about.

If item is delivered it maybe better not to pester them to leave feedback you may wake up a sleeping dog who was not happy for some reason. I actually message my buyers when I ship. I thank them for the purchase, give them an eta (note the ebay eta not always accurate) and then I say please do me a favour when you receive this item & are happy please leave me some good feedback. But I think it also depends what your selling weather you would do like what I do. I know other sellers who swear they will never message a buyer first. I have even heard complaints about sellers pestering them for feedback after the person received the item from seller.

It seems like the general consensus here over the years is that requesting feedback from a buyer can be risky if there was some small aspect of the transaction that was not quite up to the buyer's expectations. The buyer may have decided just to let it go -- no big deal -- but if he gets a request for FB, especially specifying "good" feedback, he could be just irked enough to leave feedback that no seller wants to see on his FB profile.
But it's entirely up to you, of course.

...you never know you might knock a wrong door...
...after a sales I immediately give a positive feedback for buyers...simply I sincerely appreciate their businesses...and I don't expect anything in response, that is up to their personal decision...
...I'm afraid of the worst case scenario of "feedback extortion" if buyers confused when were asked for leaving a feedback for sellers...

If you get about half of your buyers leaving 100% feedback which seemed to be the consensus prior to managed payments starting I would never follow up a sale with a petty request.
It seems that feedback is coming in at a much higher rate than it used to for me. I recall ebay would send me a reminder to leave a seller feedback after I bought something here so I figured they might be doing it for me as well.
This is similar to sellers who rush to send an invoice for a single item after a sale. It is unnecessary to invoice unless it is for multiple items to combine postage & handling. Ebay opens a non-payment case in four days now.

I once had a seller I was less than happy with, so I decided not to leave feedback. Guy bugged me for feedback so I gave him a red one

No. Many buyers find this annoying and a form or harassment. But here's a secret....
Feedback doesn't matter as much as you think it does. Just do your work, treat your customers right and you'll be fine.

Sending a message inside of ebays message system to a buyer with such a request is a no-no. This is something I wondered about myself early on and quickly learned not to do.
However what I do-do is include a note inside each package that says something like this:
"Hello! I hope you are happy with your purchase. If you are and you are willing to take a moment to give me a positive rating inside ebay using their feedback system I would much appreciate it!
If, for any reason, you are NOT happy, please contact me inside ebay's messaging system prior to leaving feedback so that I can help make it right!"
I find something along those lines is far less offensive since it's kind of like a little greeting along with whatever you sold to them. I find that to be far more acceptable.

Unless the seller has it set so that UPI cases are opened at a particular time, like so many days after the auction ends, eBay does NOT open a case automatically on its own.
Or is that a recent change that I've not yet read about?

I consider it in poor taste and unwise to mention the word "feedback" in any message, regardless of the content or circumstances. Nothing good can come of it.

You can certainly request that your buyers leave feedback. You may not get what you wanted, though.
No feedback = good feedback. Some things are better left alone.

You can but I wouldn't, ever.
