New listing format.

I used the new listing format for the first time today after reading all the complaints about it on the boards.
Sure it takes a little getting used to, but it's not THAT bad.

What is a 'beta black out'? Never seen or heard of such a thing.

It is what happens when various sellers are put into "versions" of ebay algorithms as they test which one provides the most sales- that is how they test features or algorithm changes. very common practice here.

As it is a test - of course some will be advantage and others will not- when your account has been put in one of these tests that do not provide good results- its as if a " beta blackout" occurred.

A particularly devastating one was early adopters of the beta managed payments- those seller's sales plummeted so deep (as if their stores were shut off or not even visible), that ebay ended up paying them the difference in their average monthly gross sales for a year or else they would have all gone out of business.

This happens on a daily basis but not with such extreme results - if you are in a test group- you will notice it.

@stainlessenginecovers

The entire 'change' in the selling templates were driven by 2 things 1.) How 'search engines' (Google) interprets and shows things and 2.) How things are shown on Phones.

Has nothing to do with 'the site wanting to change things for no reason'.

what are you talking about- the content of the listing  has nothing to do with the way it gets input..?? the "look" of the listing tool does not affect how google interprets the content.

as far as how it is shown on phones- its already like this on phones- no different. the complaints are because they took the phone app and forced the mobile UI onto our desktops in a clumsy and awkward way.     People use or to list. people use desktops to list- people rarely use both to the same extent.   If someone cannot figure out how to use a desktop AND a mobile UI..... i question whether or not that is even someone you want to cater to.....

Re: New listing format.

Today, i listed item as sell similar except i had pair so i corrected specifics description and doubled the price on the desktop version and finalized listing. I then looked at active list and listing didn’t apply higher price but the old one. I decided to go on application and revised listing. I overrode/double the price and application list showed correct now. I went back to list on the webbrowser and this same listing still showed lower price after refreshing and changing on app. Can a buyer buy item at lower price when that glitch happens? It took me so much to get Ebay to apply correct price!

@chapeau-noir   Yeah, all the multiple negative posts on this subject aren't enough for some.

It was a nice try, though.

As long as I am selling several listings that are very similar, I breeze right though with photo change & minor description editing.

this is what the thing is designed for it seems. Such as I rarely do such (individual items that are unique is what I prefer) it aint so good to me.

Re: New listing format.

Have you had to rearrange pictures yet?  This is not an easy task.

Have you had to add a custom template under your description?  The words do not appear where your cursor is, but at the top of the description.  I use 3 per listing, one after the other, and they all go to the top, not where my cursor is.

Have you had to edit pictures yet?  Sometimes they don't 'stay' edited and you have to do them again.  Sometimes you have to rotate them again because they don't 'stay' rotated.

Have you listed a book?  Item specifics are SO stupid.  You have to type in everything but can't edit one that is a sell similar.  You have to type everything in every time.  Usually I sell similar and edit what is there but you can't now.

and oh the clicks...

If the best you can say about something is "it's not that bad", then it can't be all that good either.

The start time for scheduled auctions just seems to be hidden. I've had to go back and revise times when listing multiple items. I am really sorry to see the shipping weight area missing the range of weight when selecting "ship by location". I ship antiques ranging in weight from under 1 lb to over 9 lbs and everything in between. I can't pack each individual item prior to listing to get a proper number.  And lastly why can't I leave feedback about the new listing format after I've listing rather than before I list.

Not the specific one that the @siamjane8 is mentioning, but I just want to confirm that eBay does indeed do 'tests' on their live data. We've been lucky/unlucky enough to be a part of it several times, and have eBay confirming it.

You know how they changed it this year so that 1% minimum rates on PL didn't work anymore? We were part of a "test" that had that begin 2 years ago: https://community.ebay.com/t5/Selling/Potential-problem-with-Promoted-Listings-impressions/m-p/31218...

This wasn't the first time something like this occurred, way back to 2017-2018 we've been having changes affect us earlier than others (I assume because we're a large seller). From Stagnant Listings penalties hitting us earlier than others, to the early PL algorithms, to eBay's failed "new product catalog" in 2018.

So I try to be vocal with our experiences as they often prove to be a warning of what everyone else could expect 1-2 years later.

And on that note, I'd been quite open about how for the last ~year, PL now have weight on our ORGANIC impressions (meaning lower PL investment = less Organic impressions), as well as eBay's upcoming "3rd party ads" where you have the 'amazing' option to pay for eBay's Google ads, rather than allowing your PLS fees to be put to work and promote you on Google.

Often times people disregard or are in disbelief that these happen. But traditionally, it's fit the pattern where these things spread to others. I hope others take this as a warning as there's lots of 'fun' for everyone else to look forward to!

Re: New listing format.

It will be very disappointing if ebay adds yet another way to "promote" our listings for more of our money. its becoming a complete disgrace- every new money grab just takes away value from the last....so now if you promote like normal - that will not show up on google unless you pay more?  great move again ebay- make the search results even more irrelevant to the key words searched in favor of more pay to play!

I love when i search Nike sneakers and ebay shows me promoted Adidas sneakers - what will be the breaking point for buyer dissatisfaction? cause people are getting fed up with all this promoted junk that has nothing to do with what we search....
