For those who offer Local PickUp….ebay is rolling out a Proof of Delivery feature. When the buyer pays online, he gets a QR Code and a six digit number. When he picks up, he shows the code to the seller, who can scan it with his phone and that will then indicate delivered in the shipping area. Don’t want to get close enough to scan? The buyer is also given a six digit code number which he can provide to the seller, and that too will be accepted as proof of delivery.
This is being rolled out, so not everyone may have it today. Also, at this time, this won’t work if Local PickUp was not chosen by the buyer at time of purchase. (Example: Listing does not offer Local Pick Up. Buyer buys item, but then notices he lives in same town as seller, so asks for Local Pick Up. This won’t be available, although it sounds like they might try to add that ability down the line)
I don’t think there’s been a formal announcement yet, but this was discussed in today’s ebay Podcast. https://community.ebay.com/t5/The-eBay-for-Business-Podcast/Episode-88-Checking-In-With-Sellers-Sell...

If eBay ever bothers to finish this feature there will be a way to enter the code via a browser. However we are almost 4 months out from this feature being announced and rolled out to the buyers, but the seller side remains unfinished. Another eBay IT failure in my opinion.
brian@ebay Is there an ETA to when this will fully implemented and actually be a usable feature?

@dtexley3 I'm happy to confirm that this feature is fully usable. It is designed for use with the eBay mobile app, not in a browser. This is by design and there have been no announced plans to release this in browser format. This is an additional feature sellers have as an option, but are not required to use.

So brian@ebay currently, without using the app, how can a seller let ebay know that the transaction has been completed, the item has been collected, and get the process of releasing funds from paypal moving forward?
With tracking info from a third party to the sale (shipping carrier) you'll release funds pretty quick when it shows delivered but if a seller doesn't have the app, then whats the correct way to complete the transaction and get funds to the seller in the quickest manner possible?
Seems silly that a seller is potentially treated differently just because they did a local pickup without the app.
I have read about having a signed invoice or message from the buyer being helpful for defending against item not received cases, but that's not the same thing as what I'm asking. Or is it???
Thanks in advance.

Well , you still have the Cash upon pickup option available. ;o) No proof of delivery against no proof of payment ... I guess they match each other... 🐵

I didn't see this new QR code thing ,until I went to mark / list the item as shipped / delivered, picked up. I met the buyer at a local restaurant, and gave the buyer his item, buyer didnt say anything about this code, I dont have access to this code ,and now I cant get a hold of buyer (I've messaged called) to get the code to mark the auction as completed. This QR code is really a waste of time and not helpful at all. .

I sold a cargo trailer 2mo ago, transaction went great. Was unaware of this “feature“ and now eBay is asking me to scan the code even though the transaction is long over. And, says that the item has not been “delivered“. I have gotten positive feedback & other correspondence from the buyer indicating they were happy with the transaction, so what, should I do to get rid of that “ship now“ message from eBay? Thanks for any ideas 🤔

brian@ebay , can you please respond to the post I made last week?

Just posting to the end of this thread,.
What is missing here is that ebay DOES ALLOW subsequent SNAD claims on items that are picked up. The "app" or "code" business is simply for delivery concerns, and likely will NOT help a seller if a claim is filed through the Pal instead of ebay anyway. The "we are separate companies" theme has been more prevalent than ever as documented by the poor seller who used the GSP and was told basically to "pound sand" when the parcel was lost and the buyer claimed INR via the Pal.
There was a post a few weeks ago from a seller who sold a large piece of machinery on ebay. Buyer picked it up, took it a couple of states away, disassembled the piece and claimed SNAD......
eBay told the seller (too bad to be you) to issue a return shipping label. I suppose if the seller did NOT, ebay would allow the buyer the refund and let them keep the item as per usual.
Just be aware, that this app/code program is likely not such a wonderful deal.

I'll just add to your post the fact that the new QR code can ONLY BE UPLOADED THROUGH THE eBay APP.
I had a buyer make a local pickup not long ago for a $1k item. They texted me the QR code that also has a 5 or 6 digit number while we were standing in front of my warehouse. After the buyer left I logged into my desktop thinking that there would be some place where I could enter the code that they gave me. Nope!
We sellers have to be willing to download the horrible eBay app in order to make use of this great new QR code. So for me its basically an unusable technological advancement.

During the most recent earnings call, new CEO Jamie Iannone recently used this pick QR code feature as one of several specific examples illustrating his "Tech-led reimagination" vision for eBay.
Describing eBay's opportunity if eBay were to, "really focus our technology effort in those areas that we know are features, tools, capability and new experiences that help buyers and sellers connect," Iannone then went on to describe this QR pickup feature as a "magical experience" making the in-person exchange "more seamless":
"A small example of that is, while we don't have a huge pickup business and there's a lot of
categories where people do meet in person to exchange goods and we just made it more
seamless through these QR codes for the buyer and the seller, it's kind of a magical
experience, the money flows and that's the benefit of doing managed payments and
technology together as we can create those experiences for buyers and sellers." - Jamie Iannone, CEO eBay

One problem: I didn't get the scan and six digits until after the buyer left. He sent it to me, I sent it to my wife so I could scan it. The site it took me to didn't seem to have anything to do with the sale.
In the app I can't find an "arrange pick up" screen. Their Help section doesn't help.
Can anyone tell me where I can enter the six digits?
