New cancel changes

Today eBay finally fixed the long over due process of buyer or seller cancellation. Unfortunately, a buyer previously purchased an item and then changed there mind after I had made a shipping label.
I had no way to cancel the order and eBay held it against me and decided to drop my Top rated  seller rating for 1 buyer  canceled transaction.
Prior to this happening eBay kept sending me messages to change my listings to become a Top Rated plus seller. I did not and shortly thereafter my rating was lowered.
Thanks eBay !!

As has already been explained, a buyer can NOT cancel an order.  They can request a cancellation, but only the seller can approve it.  Buyers are not allowed to request a cancellation if the item has been shipped, so either you purchased your shipping label from another site and had not yet uploaded the info into Ebay or you created the label in Ebay moments after the buyer filed the Request for Cancellation.

Either way, you could have approved the cancellation and voided the shipping label so you would get your money back.  Because if you had just created it, you had not yet shipped the item.

There is NO punishment for denying a cancellation request.  NONE.  Well not by Ebay anyway, the buyer however may get the item and then file a Request for Return.  Then you have to pay more money to get your item back.

Not having any of your listings qualify for TRS+ also had nothing to do with losing your TRS.  I've been TRS since the program was started.  At points in the years I've been selling I've had my listings qualify [all or some] for TRS+.  Currently I do not have any.  I have always retained my TRS.

It is more likely that you lost your TRS due to no longer qualifying for the program.  Likely your number of sales, but I don't know that for sure.

Qualify as a Top Rated Seller

To become a Top Rated Seller, you must meet the following guidelines:

  • An eBay account that’s been active for at least 90 days.
  • 100 or more transactions and $1,000 in sales during the last 12 months with US buyers.
  • A defect rate less than or equal to 0.5%, with three or fewer defects from unique buyers.
  • Cases closed without seller resolution less than or equal to 0.3%, and two or fewer cases.
  • A late shipment rate less than or equal to 3%, and five or fewer late shipments.
  • Tracking uploaded within your stated handling time, and carrier validation for 95% of transactions to US buyers.

Once you meet these requirements, we will automatically upgrade you to the Top Rated Seller status at your next evaluation.

Somewhere in those requirements, you missed the target.  You can recover your TRS by meeting the requirements again.  I wish you good luck in accomplishing that.  You can do it.

If a label has been purchased, it will show 'shipped' and therefore the buyer cannot 'ask' for a cancelation.

Also, 'cancellations' are STILL up to the Seller to 'approve' or 'not approve'.

Ebay cannot 'lower' your 'status' because you did NOT honor a cancellation.

There must be more to this story.

New cancel changes

My first cancellation with the new method changed her mind about cancelling! So when I go to decline the cancel, my only choices are approve or decline due to shipped with a spot to put the tracking info. So I did that, but then it showed up in items to ship and I had to put the info in again.  There should be either a customer changed mind again option or do away with having to put information in that is just going to be MIA in 2 seconds.

In response to your post stating a seller cannot cancel an item after a shipping label has been purchased. This happened previous to the recent change. I may not all of the rules forward and backwards but it appears to me a seller is more than likely to get some type of repercussions if you don’t accept a cancellation for any reason. In addition, There are very few options that are available to cancel an item due to the way the system is setup.

Well not exactly.  The seller can void the label and then process the cancellation.
