New Paypal format

Now it seems you pay Ebay instead of the seller. Does that change anything?

A buyer doesn't need to read up on Managed Payments.

But now @Anonymous all we have on the PayPal transaction details page is sparse details,

- showing eBay as the seller, so we don't know the seller, and

- not showing any item number or description.

Seller info

eBay

800-456-XXXX

http://eBay.com/help

Invoice ID

XXXX (not helpful)

Purchase details

Purchase amount [sic] $123.45

Total

Need help?

If there's a problem, contact the seller through PayPal (that's a problem too, as eBay is not the seller)

That's it. No seller ID, and just "Purchase amount" instead of the item title, item number, quantity, etc.

Please add those details back when paying the eBay Inc PayPal account through Managed Payments.

Here @Anonymous is the page ^^ above. In addition that eBay is now the seller and the new lack of details, eBay further creates 2 transactions, each with its own unique ID, for a single purchase:

eBay is the seller Aug 2019 auth then paid.png

Please compare with randomly-selected transactions which are still showing the actual seller name and eBay ID, item title and number, and even the tracking number, from 2017, 2 years ago, and 2016, 3 years ago:

Details still at PayPal 2 even 3 years later.png

eBay continues to have all of these details, but it's not shown at the PayPal transaction. Aside, the item number, can still be significant years later (even though it's no longer valid at eBay) because it only takes one click to Save As PDF the listing page during the original purchase:

Hi @dede394, thanks for the screenshots. I'm happy to pass this along, though I do want to stress that many of the details shared here do represent the industry standard for how transaction history is displayed by your funding source. I've double checked personally, and none of my credit/debit card accounts show me the level of detail for purchases that you are looking for. Additionally, the way that PayPal chooses to display a payment for an eBay purchase through managed payments (the two transaction IDs you referenced) may not be something we are able to dictate.

The details you are looking for are available on eBay, either in the purchase history or a seller's sales history. If questions arose, our managed payments teams would be happy to look into a specific transaction and answer questions. Again, I'm happy to pass along feedback, I just wanted to clarify that some changes won't be possible as the details provided to a third party funding source are different from the details shown by the payment processor, and other concerns may already be on our radar and planned/implemented (such as the desire to see transaction details/tracking/item numbers for sales through managed payments for a longer period of time) slight_smile

I think this is one of the dumbest moves that ebay has made. We now  cannot get business loans thru Paypal because it is in the contract that they are being paid by a percentage of our sales. When Paypal no longer has control of our accounts then no more loans. This will hurt most long standing sellers who list a great deal of items. I feel they will lose alot of good sellers. They should give us a choice to join or not join. Pay the fees or not pay the fees.  It should be the sellers choice.

Good bye ebay!!!

Since Managed Payments is a potential $1B/year cash cow to eBay expect this to expand to what you need.

Coming next :  Ebay offers Business loans!

Oh shoot!  Should not have said that! They probably hadn't thought of it yet and will 'steal' my idea!

Re: New Paypal format

I purchased some books last night with my other account.

1) Paid with paypal using existing balance.
2) Seller was recorded as "Ebay" "You paid Ebay"
3) Transaction is in my purchases like it always has been with all the info I need regarding who I dealt with.
Sales record looks exactly like it always has.

This was my first time paying with MP and I feel.....What's the big deal?

Re: New Paypal format

I just bought something today and paid through paypal.  The payment screens were different than I am used to and the payment came through my email as a paypal payment to "Ebay."  I was totally confused, I was not sure if I had actually paid the seller to just sent some random money to Ebay.  Now it is showing that the payment is "pending" to the seller.  The transaction is showing in both my email and my paypal account as a payment to Ebay instead of the seller and does not indicate what item was paid for.  Very confusing.

Hey...you spoke "too late." Look at this which I think was announced by eBay soonafter the discussions about sellers not being able to use PP for their ebay sales:

@Anonymous

Hi, my concern? When deposits are made to my bank account (or credit union account), what detail is given as to what each entry represents, i.e. will have this "ebay as seller" with only maybe the Item Number? If there is no descriptive info given, I don't have the time to keep matching up between by bank account and doing this workaround to look at my selling or purchasing history...JMO. Is there a screenshot available from someone who is in managed payments of just what is forwarded to your bank? And just thought of this? OR if I make x amount of sales in one week, are they batched together?

No problem. I am the least educated around here. I saved that link because a lot of sellers were confused calling it "Square Trade" . I won't ever use it lololol. And don't know anyone who has...my concern about Managed Payments and sellers not being able to use PP directly, what happens to all of those sellers who currently have the PP business loans...guess we will find out later, not sooner. Good Luck.

Hi @abfabvintage, I wouldn't be able to share specifically what a payout would be labelled in your financial institution, but all of the details you are looking for would be available on eBay. If you are in managed payments, reports of your transactions and payouts can be generated on eBay for your records.

As for the questions in this thread about PayPal Working Capital Loans, I recommend that PayPal be contacted to discuss your options. We have talked to many other sellers who have these concerns, and they've been able to work out a plan with PayPal to remain in compliance with their PayPal Working Capital Loans. Since this is a program provided by a third party, we won't be able to address it in any further detail.

Re: New Paypal format

I put this problem out there on a new discussion ,but Ebay moved it to another forum and those responses didn't address the new paypal format.  So I will give it a try here. I have another seller who gave a fake tracking number for my order. This one is over $100 and he continues to sell these items. For all I know it could be the same item. Ebay will now be able to keep my money for a long time, since I have to wait so long to get my money back . This is going to be a bonanza for Ebay to keep all these funds. This particular seller is a 0 seller. I hate losing my money for so long, but again this is a bad reflection on us as sellers. No one wants to deal with a company that makes you wait so long for a refund.

Hi @emieo, nothing has changed or is changing about a buyer's protection in an item not received situation - you are still able to open a request for this issue the day after the latest estimated delivery date. I do want to add that a tracking number would either a) show movement and delivery and be reviewed in an eBay Money Back Guarantee request if we were asked to step in or b) does not show movement and delivery, and would be treated as if tracking had not been provided. If you are seeing a tracking number that does not show any details regarding where the package is, this would not pose a problem when determining which protections need to be provided.

Re: New Paypal format

@emieo

A fake tracking number is silly.  It is fairly straight forward to get the GPS coordinates of where any tracking number was delivered and match (or not) those GPS coordinates to the address on the order.

Many sellers are not away that they are responsible for the package until it shows delivered AND the GPS coordinates match the address on the order.  Thinking that a stamp of "delivered" is enough to get you off the hook on an INR is ignorant of the stated policy as enumerated by the blues.  Unfortunately unknowledgeable buyers may not be aware of the GPS coordinate caveat and may suffer a loss at the hands of an unscrupulous seller.

Re: New Paypal format

The seller gives a tracking number but never takes it to the post office. So the transaction just sits until  Ebay's time runs out. It is a very long time to wait for your money. Sure Ebay will eventually give you your money back, but it is too long  to not have the use of your money.

Too long indeed - for both the seller and the buyer as well.. It is now instant - it needs to stay that way! And I agree - the use of 'eBay' as stated to be seller - is so WRONG and misleading - among other impending travesties of this whole MP fiasco.
