New Listing

Here's a good one.  Listed an item on Wednesday, received email Thursday showing it was listed.  Looked for item, Buy It Now, Low to High, not found.  Looked High to Low, Found.  Anybody experienced this?

We need more information.  I see you have 48 listings.  What is the listing number on the missing listing?

When you get the email from Ebay regarding your listing, that is because in your site preferences you have it set up to send you an email when you create a listing.  Because you received the email is to confirm that you created the listing.  It can take up to 24 hours for the site to re-index and for your item to show up in the general search.

When you list an item, you immediately (more or less) get a email saying it was listed.

At that point it is listed.

It may not be searchable for a while, sometimes up to 24 hours.

Are you able to provide us with a item number?

Item # 134668122409.  Item is there if you search BIN high to low.  Not there if you search BIN low to high.  Thanks.

Per ebay user agreement.....

https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/member-behaviour-policies/user-agreement?id=4259

6. Listing Conditions

When listing an item for sale on our Services, you agree to comply with eBay's Listing policies and Selling practices policy and also agree that:

  • You assume full responsibility for the item offered and the accuracy and content of the listing,
  • Your listing may not be immediately searchable by keyword or category for several hours (or up to 24 hours in some circumstances). eBay can't guarantee exact listing duration,
  • Your fixed-price listings may renew automatically every calendar month, based on the listing terms at the time, until all quantities sell or the listing is ended by you or eBay, in its sole discretion,
  • The content you provide complies with all of our listing policies, including the Images, videos and text policy,
  • Content that violates any of eBay's policies may be modified, obfuscated, or deleted at eBay's sole discretion,
  • We may revise product data associated with listings to supplement, remove, or correct information,
  • We strive to create a marketplace where buyers find what they are looking for. Therefore, the appearance or placement of listings in search and browse results will depend on a variety of factors, including, but not limited to:
    • buyer's location, search query, browsing site, and history;
    • item's location, listing format, price and shipping cost, terms of service, end time, history, and relevance to the user query;
    • seller's history, including listing practices, Detailed Seller Ratings, eBay policy compliance, feedback, and defect rate; and
    • number of listings matching the buyer's query,

To drive a positive user experience, a listing may not appear in some search and browse results regardless of the sort order chosen by the buyer,

It can take up to 24 hours from uploading for a listing to become visible.

The 23 hour/59 minutes/59 seconds mark may have passed while you were searching.

Also.

I have noticed when I do multiple Searches for the same item, the algorithm seems to decide the items I have been shown are not what I am looking for, and shows me different items.

There is a huge backlog to choose from after all

What was your concern?

If eBay cannot upload your listing, you will be told immediately so you can make corrections.

  • My personal downfall is forgetting to put in my (non-US) location.  And duplicate listings.

If a listing is uploaded and then taken down, you will usually be told and scolded.

You can see how the listing will look at the final page of the Sell Your Item form, where View this Listing is a choice along with Done and Sell Similar

Some items take longer to show in the search results. I had a 6 dollar dvd listing take 3 days to actually show in search.

     Are you sure you listed it? What was/is the item title? The most recent item I see that you have listed was posted on Monday 24 July.

Thank you.  I can search and your listing does show up.  It was likely just delayed for the reason I posted earlier.  I'm glad it worked out.

That shouldn't happen.  You had some problem going on with that listing.  I certainly don't know why, but if it ever goes past 24 hours again, you should contact Ebay and find out why.

@psfhobbies

That shouldn't happen.  You can search by category or not.  It is to the right in the search bar.  You don't need to type the category in the search bar, that is for the item you are trying to find.  You may be making an error when you are searching for your item as you should be able to find them.

Forget about the category and just type in the keywords from the title of the item you are trying to find.

"this place needs better programmers "

I  ASSERT IT NEEDS LESS MARKETERS.  Search is a simple indexing operation, they have made destroyed it.

"To drive a positive user experience, a listing may not appear in some search and browse results regardless of the sort order chosen by the buyer"

CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN HOW **NOT** GETTING SEARCH RESULTS I NEED CREATES A POSITIVE USER EXPERIENCE?

don't know how the rest of you feel but not getting the search results I need is NOT a positive user experience.
