So, beginning tomorrow, another increase in our final value fee. Up from 12.55% to 15%. I have been selling on EBay for almost 10+ years and I think I'm going to have to call it quits. I know other selling sites are doing the same, but, I don't do this for a living - it is just a side thing for me and I am not willing to give EBay or anyone else that much of a cut into my profit. It used to be fun selling here and sales were much more frequent than they are now.

One other related peeve. I assume eBay also makes money on the shipping labels they sell. Site like Pirate Ship their whole business model is selling labels so there must be a commission structure. So fees on shipping, if purchased through eBay, is a double profit area.

OMG! Ebay is charging me to use this site!!
If you think the seller is the one who pays the fees, you are doing it wrong.

@this*old*attic Not sure I care just a little insult to injury. Of course the convenience helps too. I believe the discounts are the same at Pirate Ship. Its a USPS commercial rate. Maybe someone knows for sure/
I think eBay, buyers and sellers would all do better if eBay focused on revenue growth because of sales. I get they need to please shareholder. However, the long-term stability of eBay and revenue growth is really keyed to more buyers in balance with items available otherwise you hit a downward spiral where you are trying eek more revenue from a stagnant market. Not a winning formula.

And eBay earns more everytime USPS and other carriers raise their rates. There was a media mail increase in August. And last week a holiday surcharge went into effect.

USPS does NOT allow ANY internet providers of FC Parcels Domestic or Media Mail to negotiate rates. This is why ALL the sites have the SAME rates for FC Parcels.
USPS does allow for negotiations from Marketplaces on PM, Express and FC Parcels International. Ebay has a pretty good rate for the international rates especially in Standard International Shipping [not GSP]. However I have read comments from some sellers that Pirate Ship has better international rates.

@mam98031 I use Pirate Ship for non-eBay shipments and they seem comparable to eBay. Always hard to do apples to apples because international is country specific for the most part. eBay Standard International is a no go for me. Super long shipping times, several hand offs along the way, and virtually no CS.
FYI, Pirate Ship just inked a deal with UPS and I did a quick rate quote on a US to Japan package and it was cheaper than USPS. Not sure if that was some kind of introductory rate or what. Usually UPS is a multiple of the PO.

All sellers that use USPS as their primary carrier have to raise rates every year. And every year many come to the threads complaining they are going to lose all their customers as buyers won't stand for it. And every year we survive. It does sometimes take a little bit of getting use to it by buyers, but they do. Just like other types of vendors raise their costs to us from time to time, so do our carriers. It is just part of doing business.

although not directed at me..it reminds me of the days dairy farmers would dump their milk on the ground rather than accept the aggregious pitifully small amount of profit they would accept..it was a protest of sorts..

Or you could take your used 'vintage' clothing to a consignment shop and they will gladly charge you 40% or more. One of my antique furniture contacts does a 65 - 35 split, which is generous but he does account for the fact that I bring it to him and the end customer takes it away from his shop. He just collects 35% for floor space.

@jayjaspersgarage Actually, I have sometimes sold via auctions that take as much 30%. Fees are not always the determining factor in platform. If I believe an item will sell for more in different place, the the fee difference ( around 17% usually but sometimes less) is not a factor. If you also consider the savings in time around things like shipping, listing etc, The difference becomes even less significant. For me its finding the right place to sell an item.

@katzrul15- I don't see a reply to your post, so I'll answer it. There was a fee increase for handbags that went into effect on September 30th. OP was mistaken about the date.
This entire discussion has gone off track- the issue presented in the OP is about the handbag fee increase from a couple weeks ago. (Someone mentioned a fee increase in watches- that happened back in May.)
The formal announcement was made 30 days in advance of the fee change as eBay is required to do per the User Agreement. https://community.ebay.com/t5/Announcements/Important-information-for-sellers-listing-luxury-handbag...
@pjcdn2005got it right. I agree that the higher FVF is to subsidize the authenticity guarantee program. Sellers of lower priced handbags are helping to pay for the service given to higher priced handbags. There was a discussion about it here- https://community.ebay.com/t5/Fashion/Fee-Increase-for-Handbags-Effective-9-30/td-p/32233356

Except the fact Ebay JUST raised their priced to the 12% from 10% when they got rid of paypal, now I come to find out they are taking a WHOPPING 15% off jewelry category & clothing category. ABSURD. because they also take the total percentage even off taxes. It's horrendous. I can't believe they just raised prices to 12% now 15%

Stop the nonsense. She wasn't complaining charges in general, but that it keeps increasing, it just increased to 12% now a whipping 15%. Has a right to complain. Many websites to sell locally. They should not be taking percentage off taxes too, it's already being paid. ......The shipping fees we are using to pay the shipping. Again shouldn't be taking percentage off.
