Neutral feedback unwarranted

I couldn't figure out how so I had eBay help me change my pay pal address and they put it in wrong and when my item sold, we had a lot of problems. I communicated with eBay, pay pal, and the buyer and ebay came to the conclusion that the item needed it to be canceled because it couldn't be processed or changed. Communicated all of this with the buyer every step of the way and apologized profusely. I even called ebay again and asked ebay to remove a bad mark on the buyer for it showing/appearing they never paid.

Now the buyer has left neutral feedback stating they never received their item.

I have had 100% positive feedback, since way back to 2005 I believe.

Is there a way to remove bogus negative feedback????

Re: Neutral feedback unwarranted

I know I've read posts from sellers where Paypal changed the email address on the payment once the seller proved they owned the new email. The sale can then proceed as normal.

That said, for an $8 sale I would have profusely apologized, refunded the money and sent the item for free.

Re: Neutral feedback unwarranted

It is ultimately your responsibility as a seller to make sure your listing is correct.  I'm unsure as to why you would have Ebay go into your listing and put in your PP email address, to me that doesn't make sense, but lets just say that is what happened and the Ebay CSR helping you made a mistake.  You still should have noticed that as you should have reviewed the change.

But with that said, making a mistake in an email address is an easy thing to do.  Still we need to take ownership for our own mistakes.

I agree with the others.  I would have cancelled the transaction as that really was your only option in a case like this.  That would have returned the payment to the buyer, but as an apology, I would have gone ahead and shipped the item to the buyer with a nice note in it.

There is no reason for Ebay to remove the FB.  It doesn't breach any of the rules.  It isn't likely to hurt you either.  So just learn and move forward.  We all make mistakes.  Good luck with your sales.

Re: Neutral feedback unwarranted

You have left 17 Negatives and Neutrals, so it would appear that there are times that you feel that the situation warrants one.

Re: Neutral feedback unwarranted

Plus that comment on the buyer’s feedback page violates selling rules. Sellers are not allowed to say anything negative on a buyers feedback. If the buyer reports it the seller will get a selling violation and the comment will be removed, leaving the green dot.

Ebay said not to ship it. I wanted to, even though I would not receive payment, but I didn't want the buyer to be upset. I followed Ebay's advice.

Why on Earth would you want to ship something someone hadn't been paid for?

Re: Neutral feedback unwarranted

The item WAS paid for but the seller screwed up the payment. So the buyer paid in good faith, got messed around and STILL did not end up with what they bought.

For $8 loss I would have sent it to the buyer who did nothing wrong.

@fern*wood
The buyer said he received a mark against him because it showed he didn't pay. I'm not sure what that was or why, but I called ebay and asked them to remove it.

Re: Neutral feedback unwarranted

I asked ebay for help because over the years of having the other paypal address, things have changed and I just couldn't find how to do it, I couldn't figure it out. Not a big time seller here, just selling small things over the past 15+ years and I needed their help to get that changed.

No, it wasn't the buyers fault, I am not saying it was. Yes, I have left negative and neutral feedback, because I have had truly bad experiences with counterfeit and misrepresented items over the many years I have bought items on here. If a seller truly had an issue though, and tried to correct it, and communicated it, I would be understanding, but that's just me. Seems as if there is very little of that (understanding) these days.

I didn't feel what I responded was negative, I only said ebay made a mistake, the seller knew it, and gave me negative feedback.

Like any other forum, when people sit behind their computers, this is how it goes.  It was a MISTAKE, both made by ebay and myself for not figuring out how to change the paypal address or confirm they made the change correctly, of which I will just accept the outcome, but I don't think this situation warranted the feedback and that is just how I feel. However, it is the buyer's right to feel that way, so I will learn from it and move along.

Thank you for the input.

Re: Neutral feedback unwarranted

You’ll hear many points of view regarding feedback. No one likes anything other then sparkling feedback understandable but I’ve run into many circumstances where a neutral is the only fair representation. Just recently I had a seller where he thought it was perfectly ok to change a sale by canceling it and adding shipping. I did not contact me and just canceled it. He seemed to think he was perfectly in his rights and technically he was so. Problem is it cost me money, it also tied up financial resources waiting for a refund. I still bought the item but on the first transaction I gave him a neutral, the second a positive. Seller lesson when you make the error you don’t correct it on me. You in the future double check your auctions.
