Negative feedback for package still on the way...

I received an order at 4:37 pm on December 4 and took it to the post office on December 5. It took two days for USPS to get it to the regional center, then it apparently got hung up in Memphis. It's still enroute to the buyer.

I just got home a short time ago and had a message from the buyer, simply "Still has not arrived," and apparently he immediately left me a negative feedback, "Has not arrived."

I don't know if he's checked tracking or just assumes a seller has some kind of magic they can wave to move a package along. I understand his disappointment, I'm not happy about the status either, but it would be nice if people would at least have the courtesy to contact me first and give me time to respond before leaving a negative.

Anyway, sorry for the little bit of a rant. I'll respond to the negative feedback politely and professionally. But what should I do about the feedback? Can I contact eBay yet to have it removed or does it need to be delivered first? What's the best course of action?

Thanks!

That makes perfect sense, thank you Kyle.  I have encouraged other member to only communicate with their buyers in the case that is filed [INR or INAD] once it is opened.  That is what I've always done and it has served me well.

I don't have my INADs auto approved.  I prefer to keep that to my review first.

The way around that is to set your account to require an RMA that YOU provide.

LOL WHAT?

Is this true @wastingtime101 Does setting require RMA stop eBay from automatically approving the return?

Please fact check, no debate.

Kinda odd, that I have require RMA turned on since I don't typically buy my return labels on eBay and returns are almost 99.99% automatically approved regardless of the RMA setting.

The only thing the RMA setting is prevent eBay from generating a return label, has no impact on eBay approving the return automatically per eBay's policy.

😂

Yup. I think we talked about this before. Sounds like a pretty easy peasy solution to me right there.

So are we to assume eBay’s lack of attention here is because thus far the feedback on wanting this change is “underwhelming”?

You can laugh all you want.  It has worked for a long time.

I'm going to laugh because it doesn't work.

I'm not even sure you understand what the feature is, or how it works, or what it does.

Require RMA does NOT stop eBay from automatically approving a return.

Ever since 2020 when eBay implemented their 'streamlining' of the return process with their automatically approving per eBay policy.

I would expect a mentor to have some understanding to these processes. I'm quite shocked.

kyle@ebay Care to correct me, 'Require RMA' blocks eBay from automatically approving returns? With the 2020 change eBay implemented?

When do return requests qualify for automatic acceptance?

To qualify for automatic acceptance, return requests must meet all of these criteria:

  • You offer returns on the listing
  • For remorse requests, it’s opened within your listing returns policy
  • The return is domestic and will be shipped within the US
  • The item does not exceed the size or weight limits for USPS first class package or priority mail

If a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number is required per the settings in your Return Preferences, we will ask you to provide it before the buyer can send the item back to you.

That has nothing to do with automatically approving the return.

I'm not sure why this isn't clicking for you.

Ebay STILL automatically approves the return regardless of RMA.

Where does what you quoted say anything about approving the return?

I know how important it is to you to always prove me wrong.  I understand.

I've used this for a long time and I'm well aware of how it works.  You don't have to use it if it isn't right for you.  I have zero returns automatically approved.

We don't need to discuss this anymore.  I know you won't agree no matter what I say, I'm fine with that.

It's really quite sad. If I said the same thing you'd report my post for removal.

Yet since you are a mentor you can make comments like that and get away with it.

Just shows how bad forum moderation here is.

Facts are, you ARE WRONG. And you are spreading incorrect information.

RMA does not stop eBay from automatically approving returns. That is FALSE.

RMA blocks label generation and sending the item back giving the seller options. It has NO impact on eBay automatically approving the return.

What you claim you have been doing for a long time, is not true. Sorry, but it isn't.

Might Aswell report this post Aswell.

What?  Why would I do that?  Because you don't agree with me?  So unnecessary.  You should look elsewhere for who is reporting you for whatever reason they may have.  So you do not need to be sad for me.

Only my posts to you get removed, sad that you have to resort to that.

I'm sure.

I mean eBay's gotta protect their Mentors i guess.

Wish they could provide factual information, but that seems to be asking too much.

At this point, I dont even care if eBay bans me from the forums.

I'm going to continue to call out misinformation, which has been done several times in this thread.

Off to separate corners, you two. 😉

Just kidding. But I am really sick and feel like utter crap so I will try to make this quick.

I have used RMAs for years. I do not have automatic return rules set up. Screenshots to confirm both settings below.

I accept 30 day returns - free returns on some product, buyer paid on some product.

With very few exceptions such as returns filed past 30 day window, all of my returns, whether remorse or SNAD, are auto-approved because of the 2020 (or whatever year it was) changes.

RMA gives me the option to add an RMA within X days before buyer ships back. RMA gives me the option to add RMA and use my own off-eBay shipping label when I'm responsible for return shipping.

RMA does not prevent the return from being automatically-approved as soon as the buyer files the request.

Two days ago - note the second sentence - the subject line of this message from eBay is [Return #######: Return Approved]:

I am editing this post to add a screenshot of a buyer-paid return. The subject line of this message from eBay is [Return #######: Return Approved]:

Return settings to show RMAs are enabled and no automation is set up:
