I sold a pair of Prana pants and accidentally mailed off the wrong pair. Buyer messaged me today about it, and he was right, my error. So I immediately purchased another shipping label and mailed out the correct pants. Now I need to send him a return label so he can return the other pants. Not sure how to do this, as there was never a return request opened. Ideas?

Without a return being open, you can't do it on Ebay.
You'll have to buy one from Pay Pal, stamps.com or another site like that.

You may never get the pants back. Never, ever send a replacement out until you get the original pants back. You should have asked him to put in a return request and I would suggest that you ask him to do it asap. That is the best way to get a return label to him

If the buyer files for a return now and sends back the wrong pair, Ebay will refund the buyer when the wrong pair is returned.

Can buy a return label via Pirate Ship or XPS Ship. The former charges a small fee. I forget the amount. You may also need to request the feature via chat. According to a guy I talked to at USPS said they have an arrangement with XPS and it's fee free. You will probably have to pre-load the account to buy the label.
USPS has also been pushing easier returns via their Click and Ship software. But I don't know if you have to sign up for it or not.

Yes, I’m aware of the risk I’m taking by mailing out the pants before receiving the other ones. But in this situation where it was obviously my fault, I wanted to get the buyer his item right away. I’ll send a label through PayPal. I’ll come back and let you know if I get the Pranas back🤞🙂

Because you already shipped "replacement pants" do NOT ask customer to open "return request". You would be forced to refund their money (and since customer never paid for "replacement pants" you would have no way of getting paid).
You cannot send return label through EBAY. Ask customer if they have other options on how to get the postage money to them.

Thanks, that’s what I was thinking. I’ll buy it through the USPS site and attach it to a message to the buyer. That ought to work.

I think pirateship.com is the best option in this situation because it will generate a URL that you can share with the buyer. You don't have to worry about sending a PDF or JPG, just copy/paste the URL.
There is no additional fee for the label as another poster suggested. The fee (25 cents) is only for return service labels that you're not billed for unless the label is used. Since you didn't purchase the original label through pirateship, you are not generating a return service label. You're buying a new regular shipping label outright.
Wherever you purchase the label, make sure you enter the buyer's ship-from address and zip code into those fields so there are no issues on that front @kath.layn.

You can print a return shipping label on the listing by clicking on print shipping label, and changing the shipping address to your name and address. Then you can download the shipping label, and email it to the buyer if she will give her email address. That way the USPS tracking will be entered on the order details for you to make reference to.

If the OP does that then the time the new label is printed will be applied towards their account and give them a late shipping mark.
If they want tracking on the order details they can add a seller note to the transaction. Under the actions column click add/edit note and they can enter the replacement tracking there. The buyer will not see it but the seller and eBay will. The buyer can access tracking through eBay messages and the shipping label the seller sends.

I hope you do.

Hello,
If you purchase the original label thru Pirateship the return label is only $.25?

If the buyer still has the packing, just tell them to reseal and put 'refused' on the package. PO will send it back to return address.

Yes, I did not think about that. You are correct.
