I have a buyer that messaged me that they used their old address when buying and want me to call fedex and change address, days later, after I had already dropped off the package. (fedex smartpost). I'm not going to do it. The item is not returnable, and they paid for the shipping on it. Personally I think they are trying to scam me. If they try to claim they did not receive it, and it shows it was delivered to the address listed when they bought it, who will win?

Are you sure it was the buyer who sent this message?

This person called me at home today about this, got my number from ebay. I hope ebay does not give out address too? They don't beleive me that I can't change address.

Yes it is the buyer.

It's not your problem. You sent the item to the address you were directed to by the system. It's the buyer's problem, since they let the system use an old (incorrect) address.

This is an expensive item and you are a new seller, and something you said concerned me. So i am offering a little unsolicited advice. Keep your funds from this sale in suspense until the time period for the eBay Money Back Guarantee and PayPal Buyer Protection have expired. You said, “This item is not returnable.” This concerned me because, well, yes it is. If something goes south or there’s damage in shipping and the buyer opens a Not As Described case, you will be responsible for return shipping and have to refund the item in full if the case is ruled in their favor. So be prepared. I’m not saying this will happen, but it can happen and you will need the funds available if it did.
even as an experienced seller, i do the same thing -- it's good practice. great advice! i hope the OP heeds it.

this is a very good question -- one that i would like to know, too. does anyone know the answer?

it's not that you cannnot change it...it's that the transaction is tied to paypal and ebay systems, to protect both, your buyer and yourself. so, your question as to whether it would be shown as delivered if held at the post office is very valid.
also, as other people have said....the VERY BEST option is for the buyer to contact HIS/HER post office and deal with the re-direction of the mail THROUGH THE POST OFFICE. the forwarding should be able to be done through usps if the buyer is legit.
i wish you good luck!
