NEW eBay Guaranteed Delivery Thread

Its important. Its bound to drag exposure for regular listings down even further. Now that the TRS discount is slashed in half, its not worth having 1 day handling for many sellers (like myself) anymore. Not everyones orders go in bubble wrappers and small boxs. Its just not worth it if your packing heavy or big, time consuming orders anymore. Dropping TRS and not opting into this new program thats horrible for average to medium sized sellers, will push listings further and further down the page for otherwise great sellers.

As the article im posting a link to at the bottom mentions, ebay does intend for us to pay for the shipping refund a buyer gets if their package is past the guaranteed date. Money will come from our pockets. So if your not big enough to absorb the losses, or sell items with many many multiples where its finacially worth it to do everything to stay on the top of the list. For the average seller of single item listings though, your getting the shaft.

Ebays new changes make it so you have to jump through hoops to get the TRS exposure (because the discount is almost useless now). Take 30 day returns and ship next day for peanuts, but if you dont, exposure goes down. Now with this and the new promoted listings, you will have to pay ebay way more in for the listing, AND have to refund shipping (or take it back if they want) if it doesnt make it in 3 days.

So, if we dont want to get buried by big business compitition, and continue to get the same exposure we get today, we would need to continue to jump through hoops for the now useless TRS Plus listing discounts, pay extra for promoted listings, and offer 3 day guaranteed delivery or the shippings free. Just to end up at the same exposure. As it sits now only bigger companies can afford to absorb all these expenses. Its just wrong.

Is this the new direction the new young CEO wants to go? Hes dong a major diservice to many of his best sellers. He seems to forget that unlike Amazon (Amazon Prime - which is what he is attempting to compete with), ebay doesnt have a warehouse full of employees to expidite shipping. Plus they dont own the merchandise, nor have 3rd party items in their possession. Its not their guarantee to make, and to then make US refund shipping if its a day past their made up date!? Ridiculous.

Am I alone on this one?

Under the new eBay program, if a product doesn't arrive in the guaranteed time, both eBay and the seller will chip in to refund shipping costs. If an item was shipped for free, eBay and the seller will provide an eBay coupon, expected to be $5, Lawton said. Two-thirds of the products on eBay include free shipping, according to the company.

Why did I have to read through almost 500 responses to get the same clarification that I and many needed - that could have been answered as soon as those concerns made themselves blatantly apparent from seller posts? They could have answered my questions (and many) with two simple sentences posted right away.

I suspect the "split choice" was a spur of the moment wrinkle added at the last moment due to the largely negative (and rightly so) response from the community. No where did I see it mentioned initially ... only after pointed & repeated prodding questions and apparently an overnight brainstorm session, and well into the chat session.

Call it "throwing us a bone" or a "spoonful of sugar" ... pick your analogy.

@klassic*kids Actually, if you are maintaining TRS without scans, you may not have anything to worry about.  How the heck are you  doing that, anyway?  A scan is just proof that you shipped on time, should an item arrive late.

Re: NEW eBay Guaranteed Delivery Thread

My PO can be real lazy about not scanning and just sending off to the sorting center where it gets scanned.  I upload tracking in time so that meets that requirement and it gets to the destination in time so that meets that requirement.

Acceptance scan does not matter in current metrics.

Happy 2018! May this upcoming year be a prosperous one!

Re: NEW eBay Guaranteed Delivery Thread

sellers are not carrier and not be able to control the speed. So, how they can guarantee the delivery date?

We, seller can guarantee the handling time (the shipping date) at sharp but the speed is depend on the carrier.

For Amazon's case, they give comment as "If you dodn't receive by xx/xx/2017, then please contact" and the time frame is very large.  In the most case I receive by that time .

However, this eBay's case is not clear how the seller can control the speed and decide the guaranteed date exactly.

USPS just guarantee the delivery date for Express only.

Re: NEW eBay Guaranteed Delivery Thread

In our recent experience from Walmart, my partner order a tool on 3/19 and got e-mail as your item ariive by 4/3. It is very slow. Then, he claimed, they re-send e-mail as arrive between 3/28- 4/3. They never guarantee the delivery date as Amazon (They do same way as Walmart).

So, I'm wondering how seller can decide the exact delivery date. Seller is not carrier and can not control the speed even though can guarantee the shipping date (handling time).

I really don't understand how eBay figure out the mean of "Guarantee" .

I COULD meet the 0-1 day handling, as I've been doing it for 2 years as a TRS.  However, I refuse to do it for a measly 1% discount.  I am actually looking forward to selling at a more relaxed pace.

Same here.

What I don't understand is that the suits want sellers to ship faster, however, by taking away my TRS, I will be shipping slower as I recently changed to 2-day handling.

I assume from what I read here that many others are doing the same.

This whole fiasco seems to have backfired on ebay.

Ebay takes away ½ the discount incentive to insure fast shipping (the same day or 1-day handling), and then becomes concerned when Sellers discuss moving back to a longer handling time (and shorter return time) and hurredly announces this Guaranteed Delivery plan, conveniently neglecting, at first, to fully explain the two-tier choice, the first of which is to opt-in to a Handling Guarantee, which not-so-coincidentally matches the TRS+ Handling Time Agreement. Once they fully explain the 2-tiers, it's pretty obvious this tier is an attempt to head-off the mass exodus from the TRS+ requirements.

It's also additionally explained that NOT opting-in puts you to a disadvantage in being seen by potential buyers who toggle the Guaranteed Delivery filter. This smacks of extortion to comply with current TRS+ requirements, even you never chased that carrot to begin with.

Does this pretty much sum it up?

yep.......that makes alot of sense............they should just show everyone in the Guaranteed Delivery Filter..........whether they participate in the program or not......

Sigh, that is sarcasm.....

Re: NEW eBay Guaranteed Delivery Thread

On the bright side, Greg said that buyers who use the filter will not know which opted-in sellers are in which (or both) parts.  It will be a single search filter.

That has to make you wonder what the benefit of opting into the door to door part is.  There's something that is not being mentioned/explained here.

Great! 45.8% down over the same time last year with 2x+ items listed. Are you impressed? I'm certainly not!

The only way this will benefit a time sensitive buyer would be using this as a search filter.... Guaranteed delivery-4 days or less

Which brings to my mind, this question, Will all items have a guaranteed delivery date displayed? Be IT,  1 day or 30 days.

Re: NEW eBay Guaranteed Delivery Thread

not sure about the one filter,  think I read there would be 3 .......1/2/3 days

the hook is a competitive advantage to get MORE sales..........to all who participate, but especially the big guys who have items in warehouses strategically placed all over the country.......and who now can't take advantage of advertising that because they have to specify one shipping location......

Good point.

The door-to-door option is certainly a bigger risk for a seller than the handling-time option.

For door-to-door sellers Is there some hidden benefit which eBay will provide but not make public?

Will this "single filter" mentioned by Greg put the door-to-door items at the top of the list a buyer sees?

The LURE would be a percieved competetive edge through the added search filter/s

The hook is how does this make ebay money?

That I understand, this program is another story.  Smiley Wink

The program looks to be just a perception gimmick.

An ebay marketing scheme.
