I got an email today that ALL of my listings are missing item specifics that will be required soon.
I sell mostly clothing and am having no luck trying to figure out just what my listings are missing and/or just WHAT are the new item specifics.
Please help! Many thanks!

I put in those fields that don't apply "not applicable" or "see description." Clothing Item specs is ridiculous. Like "theme" and "accent" - WTH? Who's writing these programs.

Obviously people who do not sell clothing are writing these programs. They need someone who actually USES eBay and counts on that income to become part of the development team. UGH!

I got put into managed payments early August and since then, it seems like there has been a gradual decline....whereas before, in the fall sales usually picked up! Sure, we have had a few really good days but overall, its been worse. My weekends used to be way better as well. Now I have my better days on Mondays usually. When I am going to have a better day, I can tell...more offers to send, more messages....it's like someone flipped a switch! lol

The item specific problem has also attached itself to a number of other areas. Everything from power supplies to hardware /electrical equipment to books/magazines. In books asking for authors/titles/publishers when they would have been filled in originally. This mess is not a very productive use of time for all sellers. I've even had items come up multiple times requiring updating.

I am totally feeling everything you're saying! Had a $50 Saturday yesterday-unheard of. I don't understand these redundant and bizarre item specifics, it's like Martians are creating them. A jumpsuit is ALWAYS one piece, why are we being asked how many pieces it is? How many adult women do we know who wear "Aladdin" themed clothing? Why is it asking what department this is listed in when you HAVE to choose a department for the listing in the first place? Sales are way down since these item specifics cropped up, and it's not just a coincidence.
Wasting away my Sunday revising 450 items writing in N/A for "theme" and "character" and "features". Ugh.

I really feel for you guys that only sell clothing. I would go crazy. I just worked on a couple listings for some vintage items I found this weekend. I wish I hadn't bought them. Those item specifics are crazy. Since when do old skirts have a character like batman, Barbie, Bill, Andrea, Astro Boy, Atom etc. ??

I am suggesting using "none" when there is NO other appropriate option in the drop down list!
"None" fills the blank and then you don't get emails about missing specifics on that item anymore.
Simple. It's not complicated folks.

That's true in EVERY CASE, every change, every "improvement" shoved at us on this site! That's the biggest problem, we are the guinea pigs and there is no one who actually uses eBay (to sell) making the adjustments. Very poor management. Period.

Or Blue? Or Ice? These sometimes appear in the suggestions to automatically fill in the specific areas. It is particularly ridiculous when you list a top that is yellow or pink, and later go back to find "Blue" filled in by eBay as the software generated suggestion. And it costs us sales, too, because the buyer is now confused, and may not know why one area says, "Pink" (color) but further down the character is filled in with "Blue." Especially older, babyboomer generations may not be that concerned about watching animated movies, particularly, if they do not have Grandkids at all or close by, who MIGHT seduce them into watching such "entertainment" together.
And what about the copyright issues? Only a select few eBay sellers are authorized to sell Disney merchandise or other famous brand names, so because of a few chosen ones, now ALL sellers have to deal with this nonsense.

My skirt has nothing to do with Disney. I mentioned nothing about Disney and the category is not Disney. I suppose Bill could wear it if his waist was small enough, though.

eBay will tell you what is missing when you go to edit the listings. Mostly useless specifics, like department and type, which are already in the listing. Also, some end up being doubles. Like color 3 times... ridiculous really.
Went through a thousand the other day. Annoying, but the process is at least fast and the input seems to at least work, which is more than I can say for most features on eBay.

It's as if eBay thinks all clothing sellers are selling children's pajama's or Halloween costumes. I'm not familiar with any Batman themed Armani Suits or Spiderman Character Allen Edmonds Dress Shoes. When will this silliness end? Surely eBay has heard all the complaints. Whoever these Optiseller people are, sold eBay this item specific idea and eBay, as usual, can't admit that something is wrong. Instead they'll drive it into the ground. Does anyone see any benefits from this. It's as if they aren't trying to help buyers find things but rather to obscure relevant
items from search. It makes no sense to me. Perhaps, one of you fine people can explain it?

your so correct!
Ebay I.T. did not know how to add new categories without removing the information we had already entered before. I guess they decided to make us fix the issue!
I always fill out all the boxes that I can and I repeat the information and add more details in the description area.
I received a notice today of 60 items needed attention. It's not right!

Today it was a an alabaster type incense burner. Requiring updates. Fields needing updating: Volume/Smart Home Compatibility/Character and 7 others. And if you happen to revise an item it will return to the list requiring updating at nauseum.

The biggest worry is eBay accidentally porting incorrect information to revised fields or a seller entering information and causing a conflict that could lead to a defect when the item is sold. Item revisions do not itemize when you check the revisions link. Only that a revision was made and the date. Pretty sure it has not always been reported that way, but at this point difficult to remember everything that has been updated in eBay.
