I got an email today that ALL of my listings are missing item specifics that will be required soon.
I sell mostly clothing and am having no luck trying to figure out just what my listings are missing and/or just WHAT are the new item specifics.
Please help! Many thanks!

Just look in the description area and fill in the blanks.
If there's no appropriate answer, use "none" and go on...

In a recent seller update from EBay about new required item specifics, EBay offers sellers free use of the Optiseller tool through the end of this year (see the most recent seller update to get the link to register with Optiseller—it wouldn’t let me send my reply when I tried to include the link). Optiseller will find item specifics that will be required soon so you can update them and resubmit.
the other option is a download/upload file available on the seller hub—an excel file with all your active listings that need updating. This one might be the best for you as you make the changes in the excel file to all of your listings and then upload the excel file to update everything at once. I have never used this tool, so I don’t know if it is effective.
Hope these tools help! I am finding that in most of my listings, item specifics that I previously filled in are now blank after the listing form update by EBay, so I am having to review each listing individually and fill in all of that information . . . for over 300 listings.
good luck

It's not you, it's thousands of CSA sellers & it is at least partially an error. Most of us are seeing that SIZE is missing. BUT size isn't missing, b/c YOU CANNOT LIST IN CSA WITHOUT SIZE & haven't been able to for a good 6 years or so. IT's another botched IS implementation that they will hopefully pay attn to & fix b/c they PROMISED to move all the appropriate fields, to the new field.
Also, do not enter NONE in any field, it is unnecessary & not in your best interest. If you cannot find an appropriate item in EBay's drop down, leave it blank.
There are at least 5 other threads here on this. IT's a mess b/c they implemented it incorrectly, yet again.

Why is it not in our best interest not not enter "none" for a field? I was under the impression that the more that is filled out, the search algorithm would favor that. If not, I have done a LOT of work for nothing!!

ONLY if it is from their drop down list. ANYTHING else you enter, whether it be "none" or something you feel is more appropriate (say peach instead of orange as an example) then means that item will not come up when a buyer uses left side drill down to search. So if they search for orange in color, your item you entered in peach for, will not come up. Would have been to your benefit to select orange b/c then it WOULD come up in their results & you can explain in your description.
Anything you've entered 'none' for, will not come up, when an a buyer uses a dropdown value in their left side navigation search.
I am not sure how 'none' compares to blank. That is, leaving it blank, may also cause it not to come up, but you've saved yourself a lot of effort.
So in worst case scenario, it hurts you, best case scenario, it doesn't hurt you, but it doesn't help either & you've done all that work for nothing. If you're going to fill out an IS, you pretty much ALWAYS want it to be one of the drop downs. It is to your benefit. I realize that very often there is no appropriate value, just choose the closest one so that your item will get returned in way more search results that way compared to leaving it blank or typing in none.
Item Specifics are all about left side search navigation.

Well I tell you, there is no appropriate value for "character" for any of my items, or "theme" in most cases. Also, I have no idea why eBay thinks a Jumpsuit is a "set" that includes more than one thing! I thought that the idea what to get that little ball at the top to be filled in....:( In any case, we are hardly selling anything this week no matter what I do! Listing, re-listing, promoting....nothing is helping! It's so sad...the only reason I have this business is to help my daughter have an income since she cannot work full time due to her health. eBay is making this way too hard!

I received the same email today. In the "item specifics" they say I'm missing is CHARACTER on all my LuLaRoe clothing, and the one it suggested is (Blue). This clothing doesn't have a CHARACTER , never mind a Blue, and the update wouldn't allow me to leave that item specific blank, so I had to put NONE in there.

That is seriously messed up! Mine only said it was missing Department or sometimes another one I forget but never Character! And, BTW, I had ALL the items specifics filled out before this update, a lot of them got deleted. 😞

I have not tried changing any of them b/c I know this is an implementation glitch & I'm going to wait & see what happens. If it's requiring Character, that's yet another glitch b/c obviously 99.9% of womens clothing does NOT have a character & there shouldn't even be an IS for Character b/c it's bizarre & makes no sense LOL.
Personally I give these a few days or weeks for Ebay to fix the errors with every implementation. This has been going on for years. That said, IDK when the drop dead date is, so if you HAVE to put something in there, I guess None is fine. IDK why it would require it, as it has never required Character before & I haven't heard anyone else complaining of that.
Depart may become required. It's dumb b/c it's redundant with the Item Title, but I could see that one becoming required. If you can afford to wait it out a bit, do so. If not, you gotta do what you gotta do.
But this happens with every IS implementation. Glitches & bugs galore.
Mynewfinds, you're not alone, sales have been HORRIBLE in Oct & not so hot in Sept either. These are historically my 2 best months 😞

I tried to fix a bunch of them yesterday but still have a long way to go. I think because I did that, I made a couple of sales today....so far! I made NO sales at all yesterday and I haven't had a day without sales in a long time. I may have a day like that every 2-3 months. We have dropped over 1K since last month. Yesterday and the day before, hardly any offers to send out...just a few. Today I woke up to 12 offers to send. Maybe traffic is getting better.
"Department" was a field in listings before that I have always filled out....why it is blank in some listings now is the result of bad programming/lack of testing software. I used to be a software programmer back in the late 70s/80s so I know what I am talking about! I think "Type" is another field that will be required soon that I have always filled out, even though sometimes the choices made no sense! Now it's mysteriously blank in some listings. Fortunately, it is not ALL my listings or I would have almost 2000 to do!

I was an IT professional for most of my adult life, so I totally understand & know what's going on & frankly, it's pathetic. We are basically beta testers for them & have been for years now. Can you imagine if you had put out untested changes to a live system? Or if you had simply deleted fields that users had been entering & told them they have to re-enter them for thousands of records?
Anyway, congrats on your sales. I had 2 days over the weekend where my Send Offers count was only 5 or 6 & barely changed, I usually have the high teens to 20's. I've been going days on end without sales, which hasn't happened in ages.
THis is a crazy year, def impacted by COVID, the horrible USPS service, the many people out of jobs, etc. The pattern this year has been turned upside for me. My summer, which is normally dead was excellent & my Sept/Oct, which are my best months, have been dead. I'm selling more on the weekdays & the weekends are dead, which is also backwards of usual. I barely get any hits on weekends right now. But, much of the country still has nice weather. I also had to drop my GSP b/c of delivery issues at the GSP center, so there went all my Int'l sales. It wasn't a lot, but there were some. And then there's all the problems being reported with PL's & the new PL program they put in place.
Last year I was getting 4 sales/day on most days, now I'm going 3 days in a row with 0 sales.

LOL, as soon as I typed all that & hit Reply, I got a tiny sale. Better than nothing.
