My post office doesn't scan my packages until 3am, does that count as the next day for ebay?

If I have 1 day handling, sell something monday and ship it tuesday and the post office doesn't scan it until 3am does it count as being late? I obviously shipped it within 1 day as the post office isn't even open at 3am..

I don't know why my post office takes so long to scan them, but they never do until early morning the next day.

@usgamecollector  after midnight is the next day.  You need to either stand in line and get your package scanned or change to two day handling.  You would still take it to the post office next day but your shipping metrics would not be getting late dings.

That could be a default scan at the regional facility.

If no scan is done at the post office where they are dropped off the regional facility may be required to add a scan showing the ship from zip on the package before the time of the regional facility scan .

When mine were incorrectly scanned by a local office employee they got a scan at the regional facility at an hour that the office was also closed.

I would expect that yours will be considered late.  You can check your seller dashboard.

Well, if it means money in ebay's pocket, I suppose there is always that possibility.

The post office I go to, there is an employee that started not too long after I 1st went there.  He is retiring this year, so I've known him for a day or two.  He comes in at 3:30 AM and works until about noon.  Nice and quiet, for the most part, but gets to do all the left over scanning and the clean-up of the 'messes' the other employees made the day before.  I would NOT like to have his job, no matter what the pay scale or the title!

Not saying 'NO' doesn't mean 'YES'.

I want to do guaranteed delivery, is this possible with two day handling time?

A while back ebay changed how the scans stop your handle time clock. You have to take the item to the counter and have a employee scan the package at the register. Handheld devices no longer stop the handle time clock. If you place your item in a drop box or give it to a driver on their route, they will scan the package but the clock will not stop till the item goes through a sort. If you drop a item in a drop box after the collection time the clock will count down till the next scan. If this is done on the weekend it could get more than 1 day added on. If you give the item to a driver on their route and they will not get back before items ship out, then again the handle time clock will count down till the item goes through a sort. Most of the time these situations will add 1 day to your handle time but if this is done on a weekend it could ad 2 or 3 days depending on when the next pickup and sort is scheduled. Also closers due to holidays or weather related closers can add additional time. The best thing to do is wait in line and have the clerk check your items in especially if you are taking part in the guarantied delivery program.

"Handheld devices no longer stop the handle time clock"

I am not sure what you mean by stop the handle time clock. You mean handheld devices don't register online?

Where I go they have hand held scanners.

The proper scan for acceptance is all that I need to "stop the handle time" clock.

Employee hits "H", and "3". I'm golden.  It is now in the hands of USPS.

Say your local drive is at your mail box dropping of the mail. You have a item that is ready to ship and you give it to them. They pull out their hand held device and scan the label. While the scan will register that you gave the item to the post office the handle time will continue to count down till the item goes through a sort. The same thing goes for drop bin boxes. Only a sort or the scanner on their registers at the counter will stop the handle time clock. Right before ebay implemented the guarantied delivery program they made this change and announced it through a seller update.

Say its Saturday afternoon and you give the package to your driver. Then say they do not get back before items go to the regional center and do not go through a sort and ship out. Then your item will sit at your local post office till Monday afternoon or evening till the next time the mail ships out to the regional center and finally goes through a sort.

This was changed to ensure sellers use the counter to ship their items even if a prepaid label was purchased as it ensures fewer delays and ebay has a better chance of meeting the delivery date quoted to the buyer.

I disagree, Hand held devices do register as accepted, virtually every day i have mail collected by the driver for the last year now, Scanned by them at pick up, Seller dashboard indicates no late shipping with my 1 day policy. Not sure what you refer to as the handle time clock, once tracking shows USPS as accepted and has the item tracking is active, Regional scans are almost always done in the early hours after departure from the post office, if this is the scan you say is the actual one E Bay confirms as shipped then virtually every one of my packages would be classed as late which obviously they are not, standing in line is no different to dropping of pre paid labels at the counter, they use the same devices at my PO.

I find none of this to be true in my experience with handheld scanning devices that my mail people use.   I NEVER use the counter to ship and am at 100% compliance with shipping within my handling time.
