Multiple orders from same customer...ship together?

I have a brand new ebayer (joined yesterday) that purchased 6 items from me.

They were all purchased and paid for separately.

All are going to the same address.

Shipping is 'free' (yeah, right)

Is there any potential pitfalls to shipping these all together?  I.e., INR scams, etc.?  Ebay protections?

If I DO ship them all separately, what is the advantage?  Obviously shipping cost is the disadvantage....

Or does it not matter as far as shipping TO the customer?  I can't think of a scenario where it would matter if I shipped them together or separately...

Thanks!

Multiple orders from same customer...ship together?

To OP: Be sure to properly combine your order next time. If someone is buying more than one item from you, send them a message asking them to wait for your invoice that will combine all items into a single purchase. Everything will be grouped together, totaled up for you and you would be able to use one single tracking number for each of the items purchased.

I'd still like to know what it is that provoked the error message he's reporting, because I combine shipments all the time, and I've never, not once, ever had that message occur. I'm wondering if it's because I print my label on-line, and I apply the tracking number to all items in the shipment before the package goes out. (I'm assuming here that all the items were purchased by the same buyer ID.)

If the package gets Accepted at the PO first (and thus the tracking number is validated as now In Transit), then I could see the tracking number maybe getting rejected with that error message if the OP tries to apply it to other items after the fact. But if you've printed the label yourself and not yet gotten the number validated by a USPS scan, then I would expect you can apply it to other items bought by the same buyer that went into the same box. That certainly works for me.

here's the deal.  This was a nightmare order from the start.

I got the error message on 3 of the 6 orders.  However, this makes sense because they actually entered two separate addresses....one for 3 items and a different address for the other 3.  I initially stated that they were all going to the same address because at first glance, they both looked very similar...example (these are not the real addresses):

1664 Lake Street, APT 634, Anaheim, CA 90032

4553 Sherman Street, STE 634, Anaheim, CA 90032

The identical Apt. vs. Ste. numbers seemed to be quite a coincidence considering the street addresses were completely different but i had just glanced at the city/apt numbers which matched.  In the meantime I was thinking, "Does this person only rent spaces with the same apartment or suite number?".

I wanted to clear something up:  You CAN indeed add tracking numbers to additional shipments without any combining (which is what Ive been used to)...in this particular case, because there were two separate addresses, ebay wouldn't let me add the tracking numbers to the shipments that had a different ship-to address (so bravo to ebay on error-proofing that one).  I couldn't for the life of me figure out why it would only let me add it to three of the six shipments because I initially was under the impression all addresses were the same as I originally posted.

Ultimately I checked both addresses on the Paypal Payments and both addresses were CONFIRMED addresses, so I figure I am safe with PayPal seller protection.  I didn't use signature confirmation.

I also emailed the customer because the same APT/STE numbers had me thinking they might have made a mistake when entering their addresses (I dont believe in coincidences), but I had to ship before they responded.  Ultimately they wrote back and confirmed the two addresses were correct.

Before USPS upped their insurance signature requirement to $500, it was $200 when they'd obtain a signature.  That method was unacceptable proof as it wasn't online viewable, but could be obtained like your example shows - and SigCon was still available on top.

Looking at your tracking info on the $500+ shipment.... I don't see where it says "This item was signed for by xxx" like it does on your other example (for the new buyer in an apartment bldg)

This is truly odd and seems to be a change on the USPS site too once you pick over $500 of insurance.  The SigCon option disappears.

Its in screen shot #3 here it is called "Signature Searvice" but no online viewable signature

I think what the issue is is that eBay is representing 2 different types of "Signature Confirmation" but using the same radio button/check box for both of them. Because once a seller purchases USPS insurance of $500.01 or greater, then the REAL SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION that eBay & Pay Pal requires sellers to have (viewable online) to protect them from INR cases, is shown but in actuality the REAL SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION is not being applied to that postage purchase.

Unfortunately I have used a couple of screen shot examples in this conversation, so it might be a bit confusing at this point. So for the sake of clarity I will repopst the screen shots IN ORDER.

The 1st screenshot shows:

"Signature Confirmation" box is checked, prior to adding the $765.00 of insurance. The charge for "Signature Confirmation" is $2.45.

The 2nd screenshot shows:

"Signature Confirmation" box is checked, but now the $765.00 of insurance has been added. The charge for "Signature Confirmation" has been convereted to FREE even though the box for "Signature Confirmation" with a stated charge of $2.45 is still checked.

At this point the only signature of the buyer that I can receive is the one that the USPS provides to me via email in the form of a PDF when I use the "Proof Of Delivery" tab on the USPS Tracking web page.

The 3rd screenshot shows:

USPS Tracking information page after the package was delivered earlier today. Note that it states "Signature Searvice" but no online viewable signature.

The 4th & 5th screenshot shows:

In order to obtain the buyer's signature I had to use the "Proof Of Delivery" tab. I entered my first and last name as well as my email address. The buyers signature was then sent to me via email in less than 3 minutes. A PDF is located at the bottom of the email. Here are 2 screenshots with the buyers identity blurred out to maintain their privacy.

Here goes. I will try not to bobble it. nerd

The 1st screenshot shows:

The Signature Confirmation that I am given at the time that I purchase USPS postage and USPS insurance for a value greater than $500.01 using eBay labels is not the correct type of Signature Confirmation (viewable online). Aparently this is a problem according to my fellow sellers here in this conversation, since a viewable Signature is required by both eBay & Pay Pal to protect a seller from an INR case .

So how do sellers purchase the REAL REAL Signature Confirmation using eBay labels and not just the "Signature Searvice" which has no online viewable signature?

Will the USPS "Proof Of Delivery" PDF protect sellers against an INR case?

How about one more screenshot using shipcover insurance for the over 500.00 one and sig conf?

Why do I see this as a play by ebay to use the shipcover insurance instead of the USPS insurance? Or another way to deny a claim? Not exactly a lot of trust in either companies to have our backs on even the simplest things .............

FYI - Signature Confirmation is now automatically included with any USPS Postage, for Top Rated Sellers,  purchased through eBay Labels that has an insured value of $501.00 or more.

I just did this an hour ago. I insured a package for $565.00. Sellers can not disable it, as this is a USPS requirement, due to the insured value.

Are you sure it's real sig conf and not the fact that anything insured for over 500.00 requires a signature anyway? That's 2 separate things. The signature required for insured items over 500.00 isn't viewable online, and sig conf is.

And for it to do any good, it must be online viewable.

Multiple orders from same customer...ship together?

Last year a woman from the Bronx ordered two sets of drawer hardware. One set was very expensive, about $50, the other set was cheap, about $6. I combined shipping and shipped both sets in a small flat rate box. A few days later she opened an INR for the $50 set, there was no way for me to prove otherwise. She got her money back from ebay and I was out of pocket $50. From that point on I do not combine shipping. If a customer does not like it I could not care less. There is absolutely no seller protection, as far as CS is concerned the seller is always at fault.

Hi @muchmerch, as long as you have tracking to confirm delivery you are empowered to combine shipments as you see fit and still be protected in an item not received request. One thing to be aware of is that you won't be able to upload the tracking information to more than one order and this can be recorded as a miss on your tracking uploaded on time metric. Don't worry, though, you can still qualify for Top Rated status with tracking not uploaded within your stated handling time for up to 3% of your transactions. This would be the only issue that you may run into with combining shipments from multiple orders.

Additionally, @missjen831 raised some questions about what documentation we can take in the event of an item not received request. I can clarify that our protection program only offers coverage for up to 30 days beyond the latest estimated delivery date or the actual delivery date, depending on the nature of the claim. We would be able to accept PDF files of delivery confirmation if these were scanned documents on official company letterhead that confirm delivery and have a signature and date. Electronic communications that are not verifiable on the courier site would not be admissible. Tracking is viewable for longer than the timeframe of our protection program, so additional documents are only needed when a courier error does not have these details available online. This documentation could be emailed into eBay for review after it has been requested by a Customer Service agent who is reviewing the case details.

I also wanted to clarify that eBay only requires signature confirmation for items over $750, and this confirmation is readily available within the tracking details. If for some reason it is not visible when viewing the tracking info, a seller would be able to provide proof of signature confirmation to us through other means (such as email) as needed.

Hello Trinton

I am the person that originally brought this issue to the communities attention this past weekend.

Here is the issue in regards to this part of your statement and eBay's requirement for a seller to receive protection in the case that a buyer files an INR case against a seller. "Electronic communications that are not verifiable on the courier site would not be admissible."

The current issue with "Signature Confirmation" is not a USPS site reporting issue but rather a defect that currently exist within the eBay Labels postage purchase work flow.

When a seller purchases USPS postage through eBay Labels and adds USPS insurance greater than $500.01 ($500.01 - $5,000.00) the seller is no longer able to purchase real "Signature Confirmation" that is the type that is viewable online directly on the USPS Tracking details page.

What I think is happening, (a_c_green hit the nail on the head in post 47) is that when a seller purchases USPS insurance greater than $500.01 using eBay Label the USPS "signature tracking" or "signature service" that is FREE and included with this insurance purchase is kicking in, and renders the real "Signature Confirmation" service that cost an extra $2.45 unavailable to the seller who is purchasing the postage. I purchased USPS postage for two separate orders last week, one in the amount of $765.00 and the other in the amount of $545.00. In both of the cases the real "Signature Confirmation" could not be added to either postage purchases due to the fact that the FREE "Signature Confirmation" had already been added to the order. In both of these cases the signatures of the buyer's were not directly viewable on the USPS tracking page. I could however request a PDF copy of their signatures using the "Proof Of Delivery" tab that is available on that page, but that PDF was sent to my email.

As far as I understand it this type of "Signature Confirmation" can not be used in an INR case and that a Customer Service agent who is reviewing the case details would go to the USPS Tracking details page and not see an online viewable signature confirmation and then automatically rule in a buyers favor, per the programs requirements.

As I said earlier this is not a USPS site issue but rather an eBay Labels issue.

I purchased postage in the amount of $1,225.00 two weeks ago for an order that I received through another online marketplace and purchased that USPS postage, insurance, and Signature Confirmation directly from the USPS website. The Signature Confirmation in that case worked as intended and the customers signature was viewable on the USPS tracking details page. So I do know that it is working elsewhere.

Furthermore I also know that the Signature Confirmation does work as intended and is viewable online when I have purchased Signature Confirmation through eBay Labels and the insured value is LESS THAN $500.00. In this case their does not seem to be an issue.

I have provided some screen shots from one of these current postage purchases using eBay Labels that has already been delivered, with the hopes that they will help to clarify the issue. I have blurred out an identify details that belong to the buyer.

The 1st screenshot shows:

"Signature Confirmation" box is checked, prior to adding the $765.00 of insurance. The charge for "Signature Confirmation" is $2.45.

The 2nd screenshot shows:

At this point the only signature of the buyer that I can receive is the one that the USPS provides to me via email in the form of a PDF when I use the "Proof Of Delivery" tab on the USPS Tracking web page.

The 3rd screenshot shows:

USPS Tracking information page after the package was delivered earlier today. Note that it states "Signature Service" and there is no online viewable signature. This is not real "Signature Confirmation".

This is the issue that has me worried with purchasing USPS postage, USPS insurance greater than $500.01, and signature confirmation through eBay labels at this time. An eBay CS Rep. reviewing an INR case might go this USPS tracking page and not see the buyers signature confirmation and automatically rule in the favor of the buyer who filed the claim.

As "Electronic communications that are not verifiable on the courier site would not be admissible." is the eBay requirement a seller would fail to meet, through no fualt of their own, other than the fact that they purchased their postage through eBay Labels.

Trinton I hope that all of this makes since. Writing cohesively is not one of my stronger skills. But, should you need some further information I am will be happy to ptovide it.

I really like the convience of using eBay Labels and hope that this glitch can be resolved.

Unless eBay has made an un-announced change to the TRS requirements?
