I use the eBay Standard Envelopes for small inexpensive items and charge accordingly for shipping. However, This has happened to me twice now and I would like to know what I can do about it. When I prepare the item for shipping, "Media Mail" has been checked and the eBay Envelope option is shaded and can't be used, I lose money as a result. Instead of paying the $1.08 that eBay has billed my customer, I pay well over $3.
eBay sometimes allows sellers to offer the "Standard envelope" for items that are not eligible. When that happens, the shipping label service list just shows all of the available options in order and Media Mail happens to be at the top of the list. This is especially poor programming when it's shown for items that aren't eligible for MM.
Labels for "Standard" envelope are available for a very limited selection of categories, and only for transactions up to $20.
Are you putting in the exact measurements for the envelope in which you are shipping these items?
There has previously been an issue with using the ESE (eBay Standard Envelope), when sellers have neglected to enter the exact measurements of the envelopes, and the ESE option has been shaded out.
But once the measurements have been entered properly, the ESE option becomes available.
It often shows media mail as the default when the chosen shipping method in the listing doesn't match the allowable categories for that listing. Standard envelope is only available in certain categories but it looks as if you just list coins which should be able to use standard envelope. What were the dimensions of the package on the label page? Sometimes that can make a difference to a specific service being shown.
Were the items that you had problems with coins and were they in the coin category?
The system will default to the closest shipping method i.e. MM, if your listing doesn't qualify for the shipping method you originally selected. Here is the link to the eBay standard envelope policy, you will need to review the restrictions fully to understand where these particular listings went wrong. Did you combine items which caused this? What were the items sold each time this occurred?

I had almost forgotten about that glitch! IIRC, the magic secret dimensions to enter for the eBay Standard Envelope are 11x6x0.25
Yes, I have been putting in the same measurements for every order. I have even tried to re-enter the measurements, but that didn't work either. I seem to only have the problem with a single shipment even though I use the same measurements for each. This issue doesn't happen a lot, but it sure is irritating when it does happen. Thanks for the suggestion though.
The op isn't using media mail. They are listing using ebay standard but when they try to print a label ebay standard is greyed out and media mail is at the top of the list. The title of the thread is misleading.
Just a thought. Are you shipping from the eBay app or a desktop site. I frequently use eBay standard envelopes and sometimes they do not appear as an option when I use the app
