In the 2018 Summer Seller Update, we announced new changes to requirements for creating a markdown sale event that went into effect on June 25, 2018. We listened to your feedback and have made a change to these markdown sale requirements. Sellers can now add items to a markdown sale event even if the listing was previously in another sale event within the past 14 days as long as the listing price has not been changed.
As usual I don't understand ebay......... SO if you can add the item even if it's been on sale in the last 14 days with no price change.......doesn't that mean the 14 days is no longer applicable?

I just tried to do a sale since it's a holiday. I lowered the prices in my store a few days ago becuase of the Markdown Manager changes... so there was a price change on all my items, a lower price. I assume a lot of sellers did this as well, just to adapt to the new changes.
So I just tried running a sale and nothing qualifies.
Now I also had newer items up that were less than 14 days old listed on the site. They were not included in previous sales, however they did have a small price adjustment a few days ago - a lower price.
Nothing could be included in the sale.
I assume this is because I lowered the prices on everything? Even things that were never included in an MM sale?
Can someone clarify the new updates.
Thank you.

Since you seem to be the point man today........
Does this mean IF the regular price is NEVER changed...........the item can be on sale continuously?

Hi @saleinthecity, I'm happy to clarify! If the price has been updated in the last 14 days then the listing will be skipped when creating a sale. Any change in the listings price will place a 14 day wait period. You'll find the reasons an item will be skipped at the bottom of this page.
@dhbookds, an item should be able to be placed on sale continuously if the price isn't revised and if there are no other reasons to skip an item from the sale.

Is there still a 14 day waiting period for NEW LISTINGS or RELISTS???

ok Brian thank you.
One last question - say I change the price back to the original price that it had during the last MM... that Item can't be included in the sale?
I'm only asking this question because many sellers like myself probably lowered prices on items over the past few days to compensate for the loss of the old MM. Especially with today being a holiday and every store outside of ebay is holding a 4th of July sale.
Now, since we did that (because we were trying to aclimate to the new changes of MM a few days ago) we still have to wait another 2 weeks to put those items on sale?
Thanks!

Hi @27flamingolane, there is still a 14-day wait period for newly listed items and for relisted items.

@saleinthecity, yes, since the item prices were revised they will have the 14-day wait period on them and this is something we cannot bypass. The update to Markdown Manager and the decision to remove the 14-day wait time for items that were recently in a sale has unfortunately coincided with today's holiday. I'm sorry for any frustrations this has caused.

Brian - I saw your additional reply in the other thread. THank you for clarification.
So basically sales can be used only for items that are 30 day listings and GTC with no price changes (higher or lower price changes) on the listing and they can only be put on sale after the listing is 14 days old. 30 day listings can only be on sale for a max of 16 days.
10 day listings would not qualify for a sale.

Brian,
Thanks for hearing us on this..
So, WHEN does this rule take effect? TODAY?
And have you added this info to the Help Pages, etc?
It's in effect right now The FAQ now only states that newly listed items and items that recently had a price change will be skipped from a sale.

Brian, as a practical matter, would I be correct to say that this adds value to the use of GTC listings for sellers who like to use MM? Because a GTC doesn't technically "relist" as it retains the same item number.
Hi @my-cottage-books-and-antiques, that's a good point! Good Til Cancelled listings is the best route to go if you want to place items on sale frequently. While these listings do renew every 30 days, it does not count as a new listing or relist, so items can be placed on sale anytime (as long as there wasn't a recent price revision).

Thanks Brian.......
I was obviously completely wrong about the FTC rules about deceptive sale practices........apologies to all....

Let's not forget that the missing photo fiasco affected Good Til Cancelled listings. Has that issue been resolved, or are Good Til Cancelled listings still vulnerable to missing photos? I for one would be afraid to change over from 30 day lists to Good Til Cancelled until this is fixed. YMMV
