March 2019 Policy Change -- Forced “Good Til Canceled”

eBay's new policy to force users to use "Good Til Canceled" is one of the worst decisions eBay has made in the last 10 or 15 years.  An EcommerceBytes survey conducted earlier this month states that 72% of those who responded think it is a BAD IDEA.  I guess we will find out if eBay cares what its customers think...  Hello Amazon?

The best thing that could happen for eBay Customers, is for a Competitor to come along and introduce a New Website.  I also see many collectables being sold on Amazon now, so that's where I'll be looking to Buy and Sell in the future.

I'm done with eBay, unless they start listening to Customers and change.  The current Leadership Team all need to be replaced.

I agree! It is just another way for eBay to make money on us! If you don't have enough listings left at the end of the month you will be charged to relist them automatically. Not right, I want to list my items for 10 days!!!

I agree! It cost a lot to sell on eBay already now this is just another way to catch you with relisting fees that you will have if you don't have enough listings available at the end of the month!

I do NOT like it!!! I want to list my items for 10 days!!!

Re: March 2019 Policy Change -- Forced “Good Til Canceled”

I think the bitter reality is that eBay and the new VP of Seller Experience don't want us here anymore.  This seems like an obvious attempt to clear out small sellers so eBay can focus on large wholesalers, Chinese distributors, and corporate sellers.  In eBay's estimation, us small sellers don't contribute enough for them to compete with Amazon, Etsy, AliExpress, and DHGate.  From what I'm reading here in the forums, the new VP of Seller Experience is pretty much ending that experience for quite a few eBayers.  It's a shame--up until now, I have had a pretty positive experience  on and with eBay.  Not sure what I'm going to do now, though.

I agree.  Although Good Til Canceled is useful for some items, we all know that no one buys anything in collectibles until the last day of the listing.  So if you list Good Til Cancelled, it may get in watch lists, but there won't be any transactions for at least 29 days.  Having the opportunity to CHOOSE how long a particular item needs to be listed at the DISCRETION of the SELLER makes the most sense.  Some things 5 days, some 10...It all depends on the item.  This isn't Walmart but it seems as thought Ebay wants to Make it a Walmart shopping experience.  Having the opportunity to shift gears on the amount of time for listing helps fuel sales.  Relegating every single fixed price listing to a 30 day auto renewing purgatory is horrific.  There needs to be more lattitude these days in how sales are structured.  Not less.  Change it back!  I am currently looking for a different platform for sales.  There are plenty out there.

I agree.  This is a bad idea and a big burden to sellers.  Now I have an extra step-cnx listing before they expire and I get hit with relisting fees.  I want to decide what listing I want to relist without being forced to.

Ebay change it back give us sellers the chance to determine the best listing options.

I agree 100%! I don't understand why we are paying ebay for a store privilege(?) and then they get to dictate how we sell our items......it's RIDICULOUS!

Why isn't the previous way of checking off the 'relist until sold' option good enough for those who need it?

I'm considering listing all my items for auction starting at $1.00 just to get the heck out of this........

I AGREE!! They also eliminated the ability to edit photos. They do not list an item with "free shipping" until you click on it. That loses potential customers. Things were fine. Why try to fix something that isn't broken??? The changes are terrible. I am selling MY items. Why should eBay tell me how long I have to list it for???

EXACTLY. eBay has made alot of money off of my sales. When is enough enough?? They are making it not worth selling on eBay.

Guys, in laymans terms can someone explain how GTC actually works? I've always done either 7 day or 30 day listings. I have a store and currently have about 250 listings. Trying to see how GTC may negatively impact me.

Works the same way the 30 day listings worked.

The only difference, at the end of 30 days, you don't have to relist, they relist automatically.

Have a great day.

Re: March 2019 Policy Change -- Forced “Good Til Canceled”

I am boycotting eBay and urge other sellers to do the same. Until the 30 day option is restored I will not be listing or relisting, if it isn't restored I will close my account after 20 years and a 100 percent positive feedback rating.

The weather is getting warm enough to sell at the Flea Market. Since eBay wants to play games with GTC I am going to bring some stuff to the Flea Market instead of eBay.  It will be nice to talk to the people I sell instead of sitting at a computer.

Re: March 2019 Policy Change -- Forced “Good Til Canceled”

As a long term seller (one store on eBay and 3 other seller ID's) I am also dismayed with the GTC decision. My primary reason is that I do not want to have to monitor my listings constantly to make sure I end them prior to rollover. This is counterproductive not only to my investment of time, but also to my sales since most sales seem to occur in the moments before my listings end. Perhaps I will just choose to list fewer items in my store.  I am a relatively small 'hobby' seller and over the years have been relatively satisfied with the ability to earn a bit of money on the side here. I do favor fixed price listings over auction, but for the time being I am going to let my fixed price run out while I decide the best method to use going forward. My store subscription ends at the end of the summer and it is doubtful that I renew. A few years ago there was a change to my store that gave me 250 fixed and 250 auction listings. Admit I was extremely unhappy about that since I do not like the auction format in my store, which charges a fee to put a 'buy it now' on the listing. Just not worth the monthly expense to put up with this nonsense. I suppose the commenters here are correct that eBay has been actively working to eliminate the small sellers - perhaps quite a bit of their time is spent resolving problems for us, and I do understand their need to increase revenues. I'm resourceful - I will play it out for awhile and see how things go. Just makes me sad that nearly every update seems to make it more difficult for me to continue here. I've enjoyed it and wish you all the best success as you figure this out!
