It's been bothering me that eBay won't commit to a fee structure for Managed Payments outside of the 1st round adopters fee through 2021. It seems like one aspect that should be set. After all, PayPal has a set rate and it hasn't changed in years. How hard it is to project the numbers?
I kept telling myself that it's a long way away and they're probably waiting to see what the trending market rates are at that time.
Then it occurred to me... and I feel really dense for not thinking of this sooner...
I was right to think they're waiting to see what the trending market rates are, particularly they're waiting to see what PayPal's rates are. When PayPal loses a large chunk of eBay transactions they could raise their fees to compensate. eBay could be waiting for that before announcing their fee structure.
Theoretically, PayPal could raise their fee to 3.4% and eBay could set a rate at 3.2%. It's higher than we're paying now, but because it would be lower than PayPal they could say it meets their promise of cost savings, ignoring the fact that PayPal rates only went up because of this new system.
Just speculating here but I have a feeling I'm hitting the mark. What do you think?

What good is the speculation? It will be what it will be........

What good as in what kind of change will it effect? Probably none.
The fee structure is an important topic to me and I want to hear other points of view. There aren't many facts at this point so I shared my thoughts based on the little information that's available.

As soon as it becomes THE ONLY CHOICE they can charge what they want. Either you pay or go someplace else.

That's true, but I think it would alleviate a lot of anxiety and concern if that were disclosed now.
