MP fees

It's gotta be "new math".    eBay implemented their own payment system so we wouldn't have to be involved with PayPal; everything would be so much better and implied it was a better deal for us Sellers.

I just checked my fees on 3 items before MP and the fees represented 16%; since MP I sold 4 items, 3 of which had none at 16% and one at 18.91 and another at 16.77.    On top of the 12.55% they charge a flat 30 cents per order and Seller pays a VAT.   I've been a member since 1999 and every time we turn around they find out there's someplace else where they can justify a fee on some other aspect of our selling / shipping dollars.

It's not 12.55% on the End of Sale / Auction price; it's on an amount higher when other fees get added in. It is so discouraging when eBay makes more money on an item I sell, than I do.

Suck it up small time seller; we don't really need you now that you made us the Success we now are.

Re: MP fees

When you looked at your "old" fees did you remember to include the Paypal fees you were also charged?

Old fees were e-Bay 10.2% of item + shipping + Paypal fess of 2.9% of item + shipping + tax +.30 trans fee

New fees are e-bay 12.55% Mp (on avg) of item + shipping + tax + .30 trans fee

Re: MP fees

The seller does not pay UK VAT - the buyer does. Ebay does charge the seller a small fee on the VAT that they are responsible for collecting from the buyer and sending to the UK. But that small fee is a bargain when one considers that Ebay hires all the extra people to handle VAT, and keeps on top of all the tax changes FOR US, so we don't have the responsibility of registering and doing it ourselves.

If Ebay is making more money on the sale of the item than you are (your words), then you need to either lower your cost of acquisition of items to sell, or raise your prices.

You are also based in Canada, so an added international currency exchange fee may also apply. Others may want to chime in on this.

Cheers, Duffy

Re: MP fees

Thanks Duffy.  So I see a VAT on 3 sales to the US and one other on a sale to buyer in Canada.

So this is not a VAT per se but a fee on what the buyers were charged? I guess I no longer see the amount of VAT charged to Buyer?

Seems to me in the past using PayPal, I would see the VAT the buyer was paying; at least to those in the UK.  I understand what you're saying about the cost of handling VAT.   True; to increase profit one has to buy right but my selling prices are based somewhat on the SOLD prices on eBay.  Of course one is not always comparing apples with apples so when an item doesn't sell, for example in a few weeks, price reductions are tried to the point mentioned above; eBay is the winner.  Yes, I see a small fee charged to me on sales to the US.  I may be mistaken but it seems to me that's something new.  I do all my business in US dollars; ie always paid eBay with US dollars; invoice buyers in US dollars so not sure what you're suggesting when I'm in Canada "an added international currency exchange fee" and under MP my Bank account is strictly for US dollars.

Re: MP fees

Oh yes, I was well aware of the old fees and never HaPPY with the fee that got added to our Shipping cost.    Bottom line;  I can't see a saving to me as a Seller with MP as compared to the former.

I would have liked to read that MP is cheaper.      Thanks....
